Rural Station
Posted by Handy Andy on Friday, July 20, 2012 5:23 PM

I am looking for a stone or ceramic (as opposed to plastic) American style rural train station.

My scale is 1/29 but in a garden setting 1/24 or 1/32 would work. I might settle for wood

construction if nothing other than plastic was available.

Thanks,

Andy

Handy Andy
ceramic (as opposed to plastic) American style rural train station.

1. What part of the world are you located?

2. If in the US, have a look (in late Sept-Oct) at Wlamart Garden center, Lowes, Home Depot, Michaels, Sears, Ace Hardware, and True Value hardware. There are a very large number of ceramic buildings in their christmas decorations section. Many are too far off scale for our use, but some are (almost) close enough to use in the distance. Before purchase, look at the finish. If there is a ceramic glaze OVER the colors it will do well outdoors. If the paint is over the glaze, you will need to repaint yearly.

Thanks, TTRIGG.

I live in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri.

I recall seeing the displays at the retailers you mentioned but had forgotten about them.

Suppose I could check to see if one of them has any structures left over from last Christmas.

Garden-Texture has some good plans and/or kits that you might be able to bash into something that fits your layout.  Here is an example of some of the ones I've done from their plans.

Andy--along the lines of Lemax structures, Michaels craft stores is now putting out their Halloween line. They may have something you could modify. Be sure to use one of their 40% off coupons, either from the Sunday paper or by signing up for their email list.
