Railbus sound.........
Posted by 8gkds on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 12:23 PM

Hello folks,

I need some help finding a sound system for my (Aristocraft) Railbus. I can find places that have a listing for one, but it's shown as "out of stock" (For quite a while, now). Does anyone have an inside track on one? (Looking to not spend a bunch, but will do what I gotta do....)

Thanks,

Richard

I used a Zimo HO decoder (which will work on DC too), with the Galloping Goose sound... about the best sound I could find for this.

SoundTraxx has a Tsunami sound decoder for the Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose #5.  You can listen to a sound sample on their web site.

Like a Phoenix, the Zimo uses programmable sounds, and the HO version is a motor decoder, light control, one reed sensor plus speaker and all for under $100.

I used this in my LGB rail truck.

Specs for MX645

3 watt with 4 ohm speaker load

1.5 amps motor current, 2.5 peak for 20 seconds

.8 amps function drive total

35 volt (50 volt AC peak) limit.

32 meg memory and 4 sound channels.

The HO scale Tsunami is not a good choice in large scale, it's very sensitive to voltage that is already too low for G scale, and the power rating is wrong... I got overvoltage and overheating errors on a tiny little loco, which draws much less than your Aristo...

I changed to a Zimo HO unit and did great... so it was not the loco...
