Filtered DC Voltage
Posted by Locomike1 on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 11:29 PM

I purchased SV Mallet LGB with Locolinc.  Locolinc Tech says I must operate with true regulated filtered DC voltate.  I have a Starr-Tec Hogger Model 100MW/40MW power pack and a LGB5006 transformer, do either of these provide filtered DC power?  Thanks  Locomike1

Hi,   If you still have the paper work that was in the box it should tell you.     A filtered supply only takes the electric spikes out of the supply      Hope this helps

I believe not.

You need a big filter capacitor, or a different power supply.

If you are drawing significant amperage, you might want to consider an inexpensive switching power supply, can get 10 amps for about $70 (meanwell) ...

If you want to filter your DC supplies, you need 100,000 or so mfd... the cap could be expensive and you will most likely have to mail order...

A little more info on the current you are going to draw and the voltage you need will help, I would assume locolinc also has an upper voltage limit.
