For those of you who´ve met me, yes, it´s been a long time in getting here ....

Don´t be confused by the title. The K&NWLR is actually located on the border between French-speaking (more or less) Alsace and German-speaking Switzerland, a few kilometres from Basel, across the border from Germany. But definitely in France .... And yes, after, 15 years it´s finally got here.

There´s no local 16mm group / G scale group (though there is a local Swiss Gauge One group (but don´t get me started). I just wanted to pass on a first Youtube video of an "emerging" indoor layout for live steam 32mm / 45mm rolling stock, if anybody is passing through the region (you´re welcome, just get in touch first) , or has helpful comments ( apart from get better lighting in your cellar ...).

Hope to see you at Peterborough, UK, 2012 (aka Stoneleigh 2.0) for the 16mm Association annual show!

P.S. I´ll be at the Narrow Gauge show in Swanley, UK, this year!

Very nice.  Your track work looks very good.  What was the problem with the camera car?

Does the upper loop intersect with the lower or is it an independent loop?

Keep up the good work, and for those of us on the other side of the world, keep posting videos.

Indoor live steam? Wow, nice layout but I have to ask:

How do you deal with steam/water condensation/draining off the engine onto the layout itself? Same Q for Lubrication oil?

How do you deal with the exhaust fumes? or more importantly the steam oil in the the exhuast?

It seams to me it that between the lube oil, steam oil and water sin a short time your going to have a oily wet mess on the track, walls, floor etc.

I have yet to see a live steam layout that didnt have issues with all three especially in the steam up area. Please tell us, as I would love to have an Accucraft Ruby but dont want to set the garage on fire Big Smile

I run my Aristo live staem 0-4-0 in the basement in the winter and have never had a problem.  It isn't all that messy either.  I've also run it at a friend's house in his garage in the winter and haven't messed up his track.  I have a fiend a number of miles away who runs live steam in his basement in the winter.  He has several friends come over for a running session on weekends and we haven't suffered from anything yet.  Unless we just don't know any better.  I really don't think most live steam locomotives put out that much junk.

Hi, Track´s pretty good, but the I mounted the camera on a very short plastic Lehmann car and pushed it using a battery-powered loco. Going thru the points backwards gives a pretty spectacular jolting, but pulling the camera on a longer wagon seems to make things a little more serene.

And no, sadly, there was no way even in a 14m x 6m space to overcome the 30cm height difference (rack railway would have been cool) ....

I know that you´re going to laugh .... but the first thing that I managed to do was to cause a smokebox fire in an Accucraft Caledonia. I could post a photo Devil

I have a friend in Switzerland who has a Gauge 1 layout with meths burning locomotives. Now that does make your eyes water. Gas-power simply produces a little steam and CO2. The two halves of the layout are connected by steel bridges which are open underneath. Most of the mess in live steaming occurs during fuel and water stops, and this is the best way of keeping it in one place.
