POWER FOR TRACK
Posted by westy1 on Thursday, February 10, 2011 8:47 PM

HAVE ABOUT 130 FT BACHMAN TRACK, WHAT IS THE BEST SYSTEM FOR ME. KEEPING IN MIND I PLAN ON UPGRADING TO BETTER TRACK AT A LATER DATE. HOW MUCH POWER DO I NEED AND CAN A DIFFERENT HOOKUP POWER TO TRACK BE USED BESIDE THE BACHMAN CLIP SYSTEM? I AM GOING TO TRY TO MAKE SOME SHOWS TO SEE WHATS OUT THERE, AFTER THE SNOW DECIDES TO LEAVE NORTHERN OHIO

Well, how many/what type of trains do you plan to run? That's an important question to ask yourself.

Hi Westy Bachmann track will not last 6 months out doors, You need brass track there is always plenty on ebay, If you are going to run large locos 2-6-0 and above a good 10amp power supply will be enough . I use the older version of T/E 10 channel to control my locos  there are others its up to you. I would be very careful of buying a second hand controller on ebay     Hope this helpsSmile

If using the Bachmann power pack, then one single motor loco is all you should run as the  power pack that comes with Bachmann sets is only 7va which at max voltage ~16volts is less than 1/2 amp.  Add lights and smoke and the pack is over taxed!!!
