Hello Guys,

Has anyone ever attempted to change the idle gears in a LGB Mogul?

I have done this many times.  I start with a large soft foam pad for a work surface.

You must separate the drive train from the body.

1 long screw on the bottom where the front pilot attaches, and then 2 screws at the rear of the engine under the cab (just the rear 2).

Tyhen the 2 screws on the sides under the cab about 3 inches from the rear.

Now the 2 brass rods fom the boiler angled down to the front pilot need removal, plus on some the pipes along the side need removal as the boiler will separate from the cab.

engine now comes apart, and you can remove the top plate.  Idler gears just pull straight up (2-4-0 idlers need shaft removed from side, Mogul and F7;s do not!!)
