It's Chris N. here from the MGRS. I met you at Bud's open house on the 26th. I came with my wife and two boys. It was nice meeting you and your wife. We are unable to make the next open house in Savage because I'm helping my brother and his family move. Hopefully next time.

I wanted to say thanks for your advice and ideas, both here and at the open house. I'm trying to process everything into a cohesive plan that hopefully works. Hey, probably even have you up to the home someday! <<knocks on wood>>

I just saw the pictures of your layout, it looks beautiful! Hopefully I'll see it in person soon!

Hi Chris,

It was nice meeting you guys too, got some great video of your boys watching the trains.

This is what I'm talking about guys and gals....garden railroad clubs can put us in contact with a lot of great people like Chris and his family. They are new members to our club and are just getting into this great hobby. As members of a club they will have access to all the ways other members have built their layouts.
With this first hand knowledge Chris and his family can see what they do and do not want for their own railroad.

Well, time to get down off my soap box......

The family and I will be back in August. Plan on joining your club then. As long as you all don't mind having a LONG distance member! Think of an open house here...only eight hours to see an authentic Back Bacon RR. Great coffee too! I am looking forward to being able to draw on the resources of the club for getting one going here. If I may get on my soapbox for a moment, I hope you don't mind. [;)]

I have to agree with Larry. The dues for the Minnesota Garden Railroad Society are only $10 USD per year. I've attended one open house. What I learned from just that one meeting was invaluable, and this is from a layout that is only two or three years old. I hope to be able to take from this knowledge and eventually give back to someone else.

An added side benefit was, once my wife actually saw a working layout, saw how my two young boys interacted with the trains and saw how beautiful it could be, she was hooked. Now all we have to do is figure out the $$$$ part of it! [:0]<<--Steps off soapbox-->>
