Hi! I'm hoping that someone on this forum can help me. I picked up an LGB Starter Set (Disney Store) that came with an 0-4-0 loco. I'm trying to use this loco with two add-on operating cars (Dumbo & Nemo), which are extremely heavy. Needless to say, the loco's drive wheels spin and cannot pull this load. If I add about 14 ounces of weight to the cab, it pulls the cars without issue. I've given up on the idea of adding weight to the loco because 14 ounces is a lot of weight and I'm not sure if I can fit this much weight to either the underside or inside the loco. The heaviest weight I've been able to find locally is only 4 ounces. I've been reading about powered tenders, and I think that this might be what I need. My question is: Will a powered tender work with this starter loco, or do I need to buy a loco that's paired with a powered tender? From what I've seen, there are locos with a wire that connects to the tender to synchronize the power, so I don't know if simply adding a powered tender to the Disney loco will even work. Any advice that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Yes, the LGB powered tender has essentially the same power block as the starter set engines , I have run a powered tender with all my starter engines without any issues. I didnt need the sync wires, as long as your DC track powered with no MTS I dont think you'll need to worry about the sync wires
Have fun with your trains
Thanks for the quick response, and for setting my mind at ease. I'll give it a shot!
