Receiver/Decoder
Posted by Rex in Pinetop on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 3:24 PM

Help!

I have a CVP decoder that isn't working anymore.  I've confirmed power to the board and I've confirmed the frequency.  My throttle works fine with my other loco so I think I've pretty much nailed it down to the decoder board itself.  I havn't been able to reach anyone at CVP to order a replacement.  I tried St Aubins and they don't carry CVP.  I called Caboose Hobbies and they don't have the CVP decoder either.  Is there another brand decoder that will work with the AirWire900 throttle?

Thanks,

Rex

Sure, the QSI with the optional receiver. It's also a sound card too and a good one.

But I would not give up on CVP, call them. RLD Hobbies should carry the AirWire, and also Jonathan of Electric Modelworks is a great guy to deal with.

Greg

CVP may be able to repair your decoder instead of your needing to purchase a new one.  Keep trying to reach them by phone and describe your problem.  They have repaired AirWire decoders for me in the past.

Good news!  Al from CVP replied to my email and phone calls today (he was out yesterday) and was able to restore my board.  He said I should do an *8*  #135# and it would restore the board.  It worked and I'm back in business.

We had a crowd tonight just after I put the trains away.  About 20 kids and parents/grandparents decended on us so I put Thomas out for a few runs followed by the "Connie".  I'm still trying to get sound into Thomas.  I have the nano ipod and speakers.  It's just a matter of finding a good Thomas sound track to down load.

Rex,

*8* #135# is the AirWire900 Decoder reset command as explained on page 32 of the AirWire instruction booklet.  You might want to keep this information handy for future reference.

Just make sure only one AirWire900 equipped locomotive is on, because they will all be reset to factory defaults.
