Video of my Live Steam Mikado's new pop offs.

Nice cool day for live steam. Wanted to try it on a run and see how the new pop off valves

would work. I was very happy with the result, plus my Bangham type whistle worked real well. Not

sure if it was a result of the new install, but it sounded great.

I am now, but they do take some work to get going good, as most live steamers do. The small water bath is the main problem to them running, the gas gets too cold and you lose pressure. I have a heater line that runs back to it from the boiler, so that helps that. You do need to seal up the gap between the metal smokebox and the boiler front, or things can melt. A brass sleeve over the end of the burner helps cut down on the smokebox fires it is prone to have if you don't do that. Mine is now a good/reliable/strong runner and the new safety pop off really improved the steam whistle and the way it looks. The Summerland Chuffer really added a nice sound also. . Seeing as any other large, mainline steamer would cost you thousands more, fixing it, if you are able, works out to be a cheap buy.
