RCS-Beltrol 2.4Ghz remote control system test video
Posted by pimanjc on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 5:46 PM

The following link is to my RCS-Beltrol remote control system test video posted on Youtube.  The New system uses 2.4Ghz Spektrum DX5e tranmitter and AR500 5 channel receiver.  Multiple locos can be lashed up or run separately.  Although not demonstrated in this video, the system can trigger whistle/horn or bell on demand as well as automaticaly through the shound board.  The F3 pictured used a Phoenix P9 sound system.

Today I hooked up the sound trigger board.  It was extremely simple.  The horn or bell is actuated by moving the throttle lever horizontally.  The horn is to left os center. the bell is to right of center.

Very nice, Jim. This is the company I'm thinking about using. You have a very nice layout.

Components of the new Beltrol system:

Upgraded chip [ALPHAv8] in RCS 9A-ESC.  Board on top of white platform  [EJS-101v3] is the horn/whistle trigger. 5Channel receiver and antenna are located in roof of F3.

DX5e transmitter:  Left stick controls speed in vertical line, horn/bell in horizontal line.  Right stick determines forward/reverse.  The horizontal line of the rigit stick is for future features.

Don't worry Jim, I'm payin attention. How does the sound board configure in with the battery and R/C stuff?

The sound board has three wires that go to the Phoenix P9 triggers.   Grd, horn, bell.  On the other end of the sound board, there is a three wire ribbon cable that plugs into the "Rudder" position of the 5channel receiver.  In the above picture, the 4wire ribbon [br,rd,or,yl] goes to the Phoenix board in the gas tank.  The yellow is not used.  Coming from the other end of the sound board near the dip switches, is a three wire [bl, rd, yl]  that goes to the receiver/antenna.

Thanks, Jim. That actually sounds very simple.

Today I installed the ALPHAv9 chip in the ESC.  Perhaps Tony will explain the differences in control.  The change took about five minutes, including replacing the chip and re-calabrating.

The train continues to run great.

Jim, this sounds great. If you don't mind, can give me a ballpark of the total amount you have in the system for one loco to operate? Thanks.

The DX5e w/5channel receiver costs $99 at the LHS.  The cost of the RCS ESC will vary depending on which model used [3A, 5A, 6A, 9A, 10A].  I am using the 9A unit.  An F3A and F3B are both run from the single RC system.

BTW,  This unit will be running at Marty Cozad's meet in September.

I just installed the newest version [Omega] of the Beltrol hardware.  I now have up to four sound triggers, with brake and momentum control, It will be run at Marty's in my F3AB combination.
