Update on new layout

Well I finally got the completed mainlines up and running (using temporary jumpers to connect blocks). Next step is installing the electrical bus and block controls. After that I'll get around to the ballast and ground cover. Still in the planning stages are the saw mill and pond with a water fall behind it. Having the tracks run through the shed is great. Getting trains out for a run and then putting them away sure is easier. I used T-Track (used for making adjustable jigs on drill presses, etc.) for the tracks of the sliding doors to close off the tunnels. Pretty good so far.

Looking good!  That sure looks like a lot of track you have down.  Is that blue foam that the track is laid on?

No, it is Tuff Board. That is a plastic based engineered dimensional lumber. I get it at Home Depot and it comes in about six differant sizes and several lenghts. It seems to hold up pretty good in the New England climate. You can bend it to fit under LGB 1800 curves, but any thing tighter needs to be put in by sections. It is layed out in a ladder form under the rails on top of the weedblock which is over a galvanized screen. Considering the framework is identical to building a deck (4x4s and 2x6), it weighs a ton and should last for ever.
