MTS control options
Posted by 4-4-0 Steamer Florida Branch on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 8:22 AM

I have a rail car with MTS but don't have an operating system. I need some help with information  on LGBs' system and any others and what you think about them.

The LGB MTS system is old but also very reliable. There are shops that still have them in stock. When I first got into large scale I had the opportunity to purchase the MTS system. Unfortunately, the salesman did not understand the benefits of the system or how it worked. Later, when I did learn of its benefits, I was annoyed that I did not purchase it. Live and learn. Regards, Dennis.

I believe Massouth's DCC system still has the compatibility with old MTS.

The only differences are that the MTS system usually used 14 speed steps, not the more common (now) 28 or 128. You can set this option though, on almost all modern systems.

The more difficult problem is the way the MTS system used the function commands, which are usually used for sound systems and lights and smoke.

The older MTS systems used multiple presses of the F1 button, whereas modern systems have independent buttons for F1, F2, F3, etc.

I believe the Massoth system supports this.
