Railroad Street Lights

Hello,, I need a little help.. I am going to be building some hand built street lights out of brass and I need to find a good place to buy the light socket and bulb. They need to be 12 volt. Thank you for your help.. Alan www.MrTrain.com

If 12 volt is what you need then try an auto parts outlet. Ask to see their bulb and socket catalogue and go digging. Most automotive bulbs are 12 volt. Hopefully you can find what you need there. I used a string of Christmas tree lights and cut them up. Wired in parallel and limited the voltage with a transformer. Very cheap and easy to do. Hope this helps. Later eh...Brian.

How about your team designing some highly detailed manual (maybe battery operated) semaphores. (That is if you don't alread have some.) I am going to order a few of your Telegraph poles in a month or so, just a small amount for scaling purposes. Since I am gradually building and storing up for the build, I will make several limited orders over the next few months.

battery operated signal sounds good no million miles of wire to worry about digging up
In Aus we have a store called *** Smiths that caters for the hobbiest's electonics supplies and more.
The US will have similar stores, you will be able to get lamp holders and lamps there in a wide variety of low voltages incuding some very tiny ones.
bman36's idea of using christmas lights is a good one you would have to determin the voltage of the lamps the white ball shaped lamps and sockets look ideal size wise
