Bachmann passenger cars
Posted by jimmydelv on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 7:18 PM

Has anyone dissasembled a Bachmann G scale lighted passenger car to put seated figures in? Can this be done without damaging the light wiring inside? Thanks in advance to you all for your responses.

Yes. There are screws on the underside of the car (8, I think) that separate the carbody from the floor. I think the electrical connections are just contact tabs or plugs, so there should be no issues with that. You'll have more trouble getting the passengers into the seats. If you think the airlines have no legroom...

Once you get the roof off then the seats will come out as a unit. You might want to squish everyone in before putting it back in the car. Kevin's right in that these are really tight. I've thought about making new seats from the passenger car construction masterclass in mls. If you have access to a laser cutter then it would be a lot easier.

I disassembled one of the cars per your instructions and I see what you mean about legroom. Looks like some of the LGB seated passengers I have will need some major leg surgery before boarding. I  hope their health insurance covers it or maybe the railroad company will cover the costs. :-) Does any manufacturer make a seated figure that fits in there nicely? Thanks for your input.

While it's tight, I was able to get folks in without cutting.   Most are 1:24, but there are some Preiser figures in there as well.

Thank you all for your replies and information. Another Bachmann passenger car question, has anyone installed Tomar marker lanterns on their observation car? I was thinking of tieing the lanterns into the existing 9 volt lighting circuit.

I have used LGB "american" marker lights that were tied in with the normal lights just splice the wires in mount the lights and yoru done. Im not sure what tomar marker lights are but LGB, USA or Aristo marker lights all install pretty much the same.

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that those manufacturers had marker lights for sale separately but that's the beauty of this forum. Knowledgeable people like yourself are more than willing to share information. I appreciate it.
