It is that time again. For those of you in the LA area this is the best time to see the Fairplex Garden Railroad. All the scenes are out and this is the only time we get to run the trains at night as well. If you get a chance to come out please do so. You can go to our website http://www.fgrr.org/ Also the Huell Howser special California's Gold on the railroad is airing this Sunday on KCET ch. 28 out here at 7:00 pm. If you can make it, it is definitely worth the trip. Here are some pics from the website.
Can't wait to run my trains!
Mark
See you at Fairplex. 5 years and going strong!
Hoping to get there again this year, looking forward to anothe deep fried tweenkie this year, although I think I'll skip going on "Spin-and-Vomit" with the neices and nephews like last year...watching 6 year olds having a technicolor yawn does not make for a pleasant day out
Have fun with your trains

The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.
Question, my family moved to Roscoe (now Sun Valley) when the war ended, WWII the war to end all wars, we'd go to the LA County Fair every year. I remember there was a fantastic outdoor large scale railroad on the grounds with operating viehicles on the roads. Is this the same operation as Fairplex or somehow related to that railroad?
Our family moved to the Bay Area in 1954 and we've never gone back.
Thanks, Rob
Hey Rob,
Yeah this was the same railroad, though it has gone through many changes. The original operator was here since 1935 and his family kept it running since 1997. That's when the group of volunteers that I belong to took over and converted the railroad to G scale, 1:29. I believe the original trains were one inch scale, but don't quote me on that. Here is a picture of one of the original engines. All of them were custom made by High School students, and the detail was very good. They don't run anymore, motors are dead, but the trucks still run on the street and we also have some new big rigs that one of volunteers made. I'll make sure to take a bunch of pictures this year.
Hopefully you can make it down again,
Thanks Mark; I always looked forward to seeing the original railroad. I was young(er) then, I also don't know the gauge but I was impressed. Now I look forward to seeing Fairplex, I'll have to talk to my social director, any quilt stores near by?
Thank again, have fun, Rob
