Wheel removal

Hi Guys,

     I am kit bashing an old New Bright loco and I need to remove the wheels because the front screw holding the 2 halves of the body together is behind the front drive wheel. What I am going to do is get rid of the mechanical clicking mechanism because I have a little sound board from a Thomas The Train that I am going to use. It has a really nice whistle and some rail and steam sounds. The Thomas was actually a large flashlight and has a body that will adapt nicely as well. Anybody know how to get the wheels off without breaking them? Thanks :)

The two front wheel pairs are held into the frame with one pannel that has the New Bright logo on it and have two screws on each side. Those two wheel pairs are "dummies". The last wheel pair is the driving pair, it has a small cog in a shaft inside the frame that grinds with the gears, and moves the rest of the drive wheels with the side rods. Its beam holds a gear that grinds with the cog and beside it is the pointy, black thing that hits the metal clip as it turns which makes it do the clickety-clack noise, which I assume you removed. The last pair is held into the frame with a pannel and three screws. So, in all there are five screws on the underdside of the frame. If you remove the screws, the two pannels, and disconnect the pins from the wheels which hold the side rods, then you shouldn't have any problems. What are you kit-bashing it into?

Actually, I am putting the body of the Thomas flashlight on the chasis of the loco. it will be a pretty good fit although it is a tad bit short. I will put the battery pack from the loco tender into a box car. The thomas has a large headlight that is his face and a sound board that has rail, steam and whistle sounds. I will probably add a second 2-cell battery pack to the box car to run the sound and light and will be looking for a way to operate them with a remote control. I have a 2 year old Grandaughter (love of my life) who is an absolute "train nut" We have a small G scale in our garden in addition to a sizeable S scale and a large Thomas set in our basement and she is wild about all of them :) Thanks so much for the information, I hope to put it to good use this weekend.
