Suitable substitute wheels for Lionel "G"
Posted by John Busby on Monday, June 9, 2008 6:25 AM

Hi guys

I have a Lionel "G"scale bobber caboose it's wheels are worn out I would like to fit metal wheels to the caboose.

Can any one tell me if Aristocraft wheels are a suitable substitute wheel, and what wheels would fit the Lionel freight cars (are they an odd size??) as I have a couple of them that I would like to fit metal wheels to so they can be used to bulk out trains and just  run as a train on there own.

If you have spare AC and Bachmann wheels, try it, and see which work better, I would suspect the Bachmann wheels might work out better as they seem to be a bit mor universal when changing out wheelsets.

   Have fun with your trains

Hi Guys

For the benefit of others who may face this dilema at some stage.

Aristocraft wheels fit the bobber caboose and work well.

However they do not fit Lionel "G" scale trucks fitted to other Lionel  cars the axel is to long any other ideas please??.

Would like to fit metal wheels sooner rather than later.
