LGB MTS Problems
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 11:11 PM
I purchased the components for a fairly complete remote LGB MTS system and the problems have been many and quite complex. Equipment has been going back and forth to the local LGB dealer but it is still not right here in mid February I have at least two problems that have not been resolved to this point even though they had much of my equipment for nearly a month, supposedly checking it out.

The latest thing that has occured is that it is locking itself up and nothing will work to unlock it except switching the whole thing off and switching it on again. When this happens I also have to take the transmitter module out of thehandheld and then it all seems to work again.

Has anyone lese had the same problems.

Ian; Kawan Island Tropical Railway.

iandor,
Have you contacted LGB regarding the problem? I must admit you are very patient with your dealer. After a month for me it would have been "Look, just replace the whole mess and you deal with it". How long have you had the system? If it is an older one this may be something LGB is aware of and will replace for you. Check it out. All the best. Later eh...Brian.

I would definately get with LGB. I have been running remote MTS for several months now and not had any problems at all with it.

I might try to isolate each component as much as possible..
If you don't use the remote, but use the tether with your handheld do you have the same problem? I might also ask your dealer for a "loaner" base station to try to debug if this is the problem. How about hooking the setup to a small test track. Mayber there is some sort of short on your current line that just totally overloads the whole thing.

I am no MTS/DCC authority by any stretch but from my computer programming background, I just try to eliminate as many variables as possible.

I have built up my MTS system from the basic Loco remote and one Loco decoder to the Universal remote with Wireless.
My problems started when I went to wireless.Using the connection via cable seems to work OK but as soon as I go back to the Wireless te Loco will work but not the switch decoders. Then the Universal remote will not switch off,so I have to remove the Transmitter to shut it off.The Technical support from LGB here in Australia is pathetic.LGB will not reply to any of my emails.
The Local LGB suppliers plead ignorance on MTS or "not computer literate".
I am an Electronics Engineer and to me the whole system needs to be reveiwed with serious design changes.
If I could get hold of some of their Technical info I could at least locate the area that requires modification, but LGB are not helping to make the system reliable.
The system is unreliable and when you want to show your friends your trains running you can bet it won't work.
In the mean time I will keep on trying to get some answers from someone ....anyone

I have found James Tapper at LGBoA very helpful. Might try contacting him.

Ross,

Try LGBMRRC's Soapbox http://www.lgbmrrc.com/forum/ there's a special section dealing with MTS. James Tapper pops in on a fairly regular basis.
There are quite a few guys there who use MTS and then there are the rest of us who bought a "real DCC system". [;)][:o)][;)]

BTW being an EE would help if the people at LGBoA/EPL or Massoth would be willing to provide technical data. Alas such is not the case and it is very frustrating.
On the MTS wireless, I know of at least one case in Europe where the customer had to return the complete system in order for LGB to match the components correctly. Which ain't no way to run a railroad![;)][}:)][:D][:D]
