LGB Track Cleaning Blocks
Posted by JGozzo on Monday, January 14, 2008 5:29 PM

All,

I am normally on the Ogauge RR Forum, but wanted to share something with you folks. LGB used to make the LGB Track Cleaning Blocks, for the G scale track. I had bought a couple for both my O gauge and G gauge track, but found they are getting harder and harder to find. Well, last night I found by accident that MTH has the track cleaning blocks, and they look exactly like the LGB ones except they are purple instead of red. They are not in their catalogs. You have to go to their website. The item number is 40-1099. They retail for $17.99, but Hiawatha Hobbies has them for $14.39. I order two last nite.

Joe,

Thanks for the heads up. I seen one once before and thought "hey looks like LGB or looks like MTH?" Thought crossed my mind that they, the blocks, are from same plant but just abit different!

Thanks for the heads up.

Although I run mostly battery power, the LGB blocks still work great to clean up tree sap.  Hopefully the MTH blocks work as nicely.

Southwest Chief, yes they are of the same grit and all, just different logos and color.

The materiat they use is called Cratex.   Check thier web site. It is a rubber impregnated with an abrasive which comes in various grits. It also comes in various sizes & shapes. You probably have to buy a large quantity to get a good price, so go in with others & get a lifetime supply.   Jerry L
