Large-scale figures

I chose this topic because large-scale figures, it seems, are something there could be more of. The O gauge guys, for instance, are quite resourceful in finding approximate scale figures in discount stores, etc. at a reasonable price. What do you do for figures?

Hey Rene,
From previous posts you already know my beefs about Large Scale people. For me I find it easiest to not look specifically for people but rather buy as I come across them. For instance Sears was clearing out their Christmas stuff at 50% off and I found some people there. They were made by Lemax and were meant for the villiage scenery. Funny thing is most of the people are the wrong size for the buildings they go with. Go figure. Good for us though. Right size for 1:29 stuff and at a great price. I seem to do best when I wait for what I need to come along in my travels. Living in the "Wholesale" capital of Canada has it's benefits! Later eh...Brian.

Hello all! [:D]

After reading comments and seeing pictures of Playmobil Figures and Structures; I've decided to populate my railroad with them. I have been able to find them on eBay, Toy Shops, and the Big Discount Stores.

We have a local artist that does carictitures of buildings complete with people, the buildings are about the same height as my trains, ie 200 mm so they will do. They cost from A$19.00 t0 A$40.00 each depending on size and complexity (multuply by about 0.75 for US$). The person involved is most obliging and will do anything you like, whats more he fires them and they are suitable for long hours in the hot Aussie sun.

I have already ordered one of Entrance to Australia Zoo complete with Steve Irwin and a crcocodile, to go with my next section of railway to do with Glass House Mountains, which of course is where Steve and his crocks live, about 30 minutes from here.

Hi Rene,

Well I have so far gotten most of the few figures I have thru the LHS, but I havent gotten too many as They all seam to be a different scale from what they claim to be. (see my rant about figures, vehicles and chewing thru the door)

I am not going to commit to buying figures until i find a supplier that is in correct scale.
The figure in my rant, the one that looks great in all my 1:20.3-1:22.5-1:24 scale loco's, looks great in front if my buildings, and looks great in the 1:18 die-cast cars I find out now came from Aristo-Craft and its the same figure thats inside the cab of their FA-1 ALCO!!!! Thats supposed to be 1:29 scale !!!, ACK!!!,

Another good Q.
As stated by others scale is an issue. And for me placement of them is the key. right were you can see them, yet to see them clearly. Folks don't notice scale as much if they can't quit see them.
Alot of mine are from discount stores and Christmas items repainted.

To Huntingdale I took offence at your comments untill I realised you were a Kiwi, just a bit of inter Tasman **** kicking. Did you here about the three guys that were walking through a paddock and they came upon a sheep caught in a fence a lady sheep no less. The American said I wish i had a pair of pliers (so i could free it) , the Asusiie said I wish i had a knife (Aussies are good at stealing and eating sheep) but the Kiwi said I wish it was night time.

Never heard of this one...Buffy, as in Buffy the Vampire Slayer ? or is this something only avalible in the lands of Ozzy and Kiwi (does that sound like a sit-com?)[;)]

Seen a Simpsons chess set, but having a scale Homer running around my layout is just too scary to think of...[:D]

I would'nt mind having one (Homer) to drag behind the evening freight. That or stand them all up on the tracks 1/2 a block from my house. Heeeeelp! Nooooo....Crunch, crunch. What an episode that would make. Hey....a video idea. Got to go. Later eh...Brian.

Great Idea, but you'd have to have a sound car with a recording of Our Hero's voice..
