Complete Beginner

After 34 years, my mother finally got me my first Lionel train starter kit for Christmas, the Penn Railroad fasttrack setup.  I have already begun adding pieces of track!  My questions is, how long can I extend this track without having to add more power (transformer) to it or can it go on virtually forever?  EG. If I take the beginner track 40x60" and extend it to 80x90" or larger.....how big can I build this thing.  Thanks for reading and replying...

Welcome. Is this large scale Lionel running on 45mm (1.75 inches) wide track or is it O scale running on 1 1/4" wide track? If its the large scale, is it running on brass or plastic track (battery operated)? If its O scale, you should probably post on the Model Railroader forum.
