Delton C16 motor/worm gear problem
Posted by ragnar on Sunday, December 9, 2007 2:41 PM
Purchased 4 motors with worm gears for supposely a original Delton C16 and found they were not attached, the bore in the worms are larger than the motor shafts. can a bushing be found to get the worm to fit the shaft?

Depends on the diameter of the motor armature and the bore of the gear. You can probably make a bushing out of styrene or brass tubing or something like that. Personally, I'd wait a few months until Aristo releases their new C-16 motor drive. It's supposed to be a drop-in replacement, even having the correct alignment between the cylinders and wheels this time 'round. (Previous versions raised the cylinders slightly above the drivers.) While you can get the gears you have to mate with the motors you have, you still have the problems of a rather poor design on the motor mount. Replacing the entire drive cures the disease, not just the symptoms.

Sorry Kevin. Unfortunately, the new C-16 drivetrain will not be a drop in unit. I asked the Aristo folks - http://www.aristocraft.com/vbulletinforums/showthread.php?t=10892

Well, that's a bit unfortunate. Fortunately I'm no stranger to major surgery when it comes to locos, so it won't be an issue for me. Others who might be a bit more timid around a saw may be out of luck, or may need some instruction. Dad's got two that he'll be bringing me for reworking, so I'll be sure to take photos as I rebuild them.

Later,

K
