ok, i know i saw it and i wasnt going crazy, toys r us had a g scale "electric" train set a couple years ago it was made by new bright, it was green i believe the engine was 4-6-2 or 4-6-0, if anyone has seen or knows what im talking about, please give me more information, im trying to find another set, for a family member for x mas..... i believe this is to be the coal car for the set im talking about might have been 2-6-2 or 2-6-0, it was a hudson style loco looked like the southern crescent, i was maybe 15 or 16 im 22 now

$85 is WAYYYYYY too much money for any New Bright set!
personally, I wouldnt pay 5 bucks for one..they are really very junky and cheap. If you did actually want to buy one, about $25 would be a realistic and reasonable price. A few years ago, I actually saw New Bright sets at Target for around $25. $85 is a massive rip-off.
you would be MUCH better off buying a G scale starter set by Bachmann, USA trains, LGB, Aristocraft or Hartland Locomotive Works..MUCH better quality. (be aware that bachmann track cant be used outdoors, it will rust, but USA trains, Aristocraft or LGB brass track can be used outdoors.)
pick up an issue of Garden Railways magazine and check out all the dealer advertisements to see what is out there..you can get a decent starter set for around $150..

Yes this is from a TRACK POWERED set, be advised the way New Blight does there track powered sets that their power drive units and packs are INCOMPATABLE with your standard LGB or BAchmann powerpack, why?, I dunno? but they are. So be advised if that was what yer thinking.

For someone like myownself who wants to learn about G gauge and scratchbuilding, NB is an excellent way to go, since I'll cut 'em up anyway.
But, you might protest, the engines are junk.
Yup, I'd answer, might be so, but if they stagger around the track awhile before they croak I'll have a better notion of how things work and look outdoors, and nothing expensive gets ruint. And, I've got a lot of years' worth of making something from nothing under my belt.
But, you might reply, you could just spend a little more and get good stuff to start with.
To which I'd answer, Yup, except I ain't exactly rich and anyway, I don't want to. I want to cut things up and make 'em different. And the NB and B'mann stuff I've picked up here'n there looks decent enough for my immediate purposes. Besides, it just ain't in me to take a perfectly fine Aristo, say, and take a modeler's saw to it right out of the box. It's more fun to fix a piece of junk up, for me.
FWIW, I got an entire, still-in-the-box NB for $3 at a garage sale a few months back, and two more NIB sets for $15 per at an auction.
My whole notion is to study this stuff and learn, then mebbe one day I'll get me one of them hi-class engines.
Now, if you would rather spend the same money on dog grub, why, go right for it! If you got a dog, I hope it's some kinda hound. Why not post a pitcher of it?

The only thing I'm bashing is the insane price that seller was asking. If you can pick up an entire new set for under $40, 45 bucks for just a broken loco is just ridiculous.
yes that price is rediculous, the complete sets new are 19.99, :)) i can get them at a discount store for 5 bucks, no one buys battery new bright trains, if anyone wanted to really know if they were intrested they could but like 4 sets together off ebay "battery" for maybe 15 bucks and do it that way, thats not a bad deal im sure with the track, extra cars, engines, etc... its worth that,to somone who doesnt have a lot of money to buy a decent set, i wont buy one. as far as bashing new bright, im not fond of there battery sets but you get what you pay for, i mean like i said the complete sets are only 15 or 20 bucks if somone baught one to take out for the x mas tree every year, it would prob. last 10 years as long as they took the batterys out and only used it at x mas time, but you get what you pay for, they are "cheap" and made "cheap" but the electric sets i believe to be the same quality of bachmann, i have not owned a nb electric set only seen one now a couple, they look decent, bachmann g guage long haller or whatever they are sets break easy , i had one a long time ago, the side rails came off, the handrails started coming off i believe the side rails broke, etc..... 75 bucks for a complete g guage electric train set to me was worth it, i just wasnt intrested at the time,

The freight and passenger cars can be made to look reasonable, but they are smallish - closer to 1/32 than 1/22. The engines to me are just plain trash, while operationally they are no different then Scientific, appearence wise to me they are just horrid characature toys that are SO toy like as to be hideous!
Scientific sets on the other hand, cars are close to 1/22 and with moderate bashing be turned into very reasonable 1/22 scale cars, the engines are almost passable as a model train, at least they made an attempt at a reasonable appearence of a model train. When repainted they can be made into fair looking engines, and they are a terrific source for bash parts.
New Blights look like crap no matter how many coats of paint you add.
If you are looking for a low price set then buy a Buddy L from Trainworld, these are about 125.00 and they seem to be Bachmann like... These would be great to kitbash.. Stay away from new bright! These new bright sets are for people who just want to put the train around the christmas tree for the kids to look at and if it gets broke, "oh" well... there is better starter sets out there, but you will pay higher, such as LGB, USA, Aristocraft.... Bachmann is a little lower in price but it would be a great starter..

Actually, the Bachmann ten wheelers are a pretty good model (Big Hauler - good, Annie - great) of the real thing -
If you can wait untill October or November, Sam's CLub has a Bighauler set each Xmas. I think it's usualy around $150 or so. Pretty good deal.

Scotty if he means it looks more like a standard guage engine , maybe. I've seen this engine up close at a trainshow. Its toyish, like a G gauge Lionel train. But not bad looking.
Xstealth, good luck finding a complete set, Ebay is your best bet. Be advised, if you DO NOT have the New Blight powerpack it WILL NOT run on another brands powerpack. Why? I dunno, something in the circuitboard I guess, but thats the case, so if your jonesing for one, get a COMPLETE set

this is a battery engine, i believe to be similar to the other, but again, the set i was looking for the loco was a diffrent color, and it made a big diffrence

This past Christmas I picked one of these up from Sams for $99.00 and that included a trolley. It was afantastic buy.
