Good description Brian.[tup][tup][tup]

A big news item would be: Microsoft developes remote control system that runs MTH and Lionel control systems for $24.95. No new wiring needed, just plug and play. Also runs all conventional systems.

Monto, don't want to let you down too much, but Calabrese visiting a train shop is hardly huge news. Yeah, if I lived near a retailer where he was going to visit I too would be excited and probably wouldn't pass on the opportunity to meet him.

On the other hand, it's not that unusual for company reps to visit retailers or select locations for promotion. K-Line sends reps to various places. And most notably, Mike Wolf seems to do a lot of personal promotion for his company: I'd say currently he's doing more of this than anyone else.

Now big news would be something like:
- Lionel, MTH and K-Line have all settled their legal problems.
- A train copmany CEO is making an appearance on some national TV show like the Today show, Leno or Larry King.
- One of the train companies signed a major retailing agreement with Wal-Mart.
- One of the train companies has a major television advertising campaign planned.
- One or more of the train companies moves production back to the mainland US... which they will probably regret not doing when China makes it promised (and anticipated in many circles) military move against Taiwan, unless the US caves to economic interests and forgets about the treaty to defend Taiwan.
- One of the train companies has finally tooled up a non-scale modern engine under 13 or 14 inches in lengh and 3-1/2 height for the 027/traditional market that clears 027 switches with dual motors without fancy electronics and retails under $150.00 in roadnames other than NYC and PRR..

Any of those would be huge news, and that last one for me might just be too unbelieveable to be true. For me, that last one would be Earth shattering news. But I ain't counting on it either which is why I make my own.

That Large Scale GG1 is, indeed, drawing a whole lot of attention in the Large Scale world. Wouldn't mind having one myself, but the garden railroading I'm planning on for the future just won't have the curves, or the theme, to justify that kind of purchase. At around $1,450 though, you're sure getting a whole lot of locomotive for the money. And Charlie's offering them in just about every roadname and/or paint scheme carried by the originals.

Yes, he sure does! Great public relations indeed! I got my lastest catalog from Charles Ro Fri...!
I put in a few hours yesterday at the ol' grind. Thanks to a little inspiration from RO's gift of catalog, I decided to stop by Mr. Davis' place in Milford since it's only a few miles out of the way! I was treated to the unpacking and testing of one of Charles Ro's new USA offerings. The Pennsylvania GG-1 in Tuscan with five strips! WOW!!! The Standard Gauge of the twenty first century. 60 lbs of diecast wonder! Comes in it's own campain style furniture box! Price is affordable when you consider the size and detail, but sadly it's not my scale of choice. But what a great model for the G gaugers! My hats off to Charles Ro and his contrbutions to our hobby!

I guess I must be getting old, Bob! About the only thing that excites me these days is walking across the Tech campus in these warm pre-autumn days and admiring the twenty-something "scenery." [;)]

But Charlie Ro definitely is Da Man! He and Chuckie have gotten more than a few dollars from me over the years (for O gauge as well as Large Scale), and I can always count on him for the latest catalogs.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is except for a some poor date setting. I can remember having a Roco German BR23 on back order for 1 1/2 years before it was delivered! It was worth the wait. Lionels Acela will probably be worth it too! Think of it as waiting for Christrmas. Be patient folks!

Hey T Rex, I hear that ol Jerry Calabrese will be looking for you at York.

He won't have to look too hard, I'll be in my usual spot Booth BB-04 Orange Hall. It's just about the opposite corner from the Lionel Display. [#welcome]

For overhead wires you can buy from me, or MTH, or House of Duddy.. There's another guy who makes cast brass poles but I've forgotten his name. I'm sure somebody here will fill in the blanks.

Lionel normally has a problem with the special stuff, as far as I know. Like te acela wich is delayed until December 5th.

If I am carrying a briefcase, backpack, traveling case or anything... I keep them in an old heavy-duty carboard front opening box that newspaper positive print paper used to come in before everything went digital.

I'm amazed at how often I can strike up a conversation about trains. That's why I always say (with due evidence) that so many people are unaware that Lionel is still in business today.

I go out of my way to make sure if there are kids around who show an interest in trains that they see the catalog... this happens at least once, if not several times a week. The kids almost always go ga-ga about the trains and tell mom and dad very excitedly. Once again, from front line experience, then mom and dad look at the catalog.. have to search for the few pages of stuff made for a kid, and then always exclaim "these trains aren't for kids... they're too expensive, we can't afford them."

Disagee or agree, I'm just telling you what happens. Nonetheless, I still carry someone's catalog, usually Lionel's. I used to carry the K-Line catalog until they pretty much gave up on their bottom end of the product line (IMHO).

Like Brianel, I also keep a Lionel catalog on hand at (almost) all times. It helps to have one handy for any number of reasons. It's sitting on my desk here at work just waiting to be opened.

Just for the record, Lionel has had a program for requesting donated sets for a few years now that I'm aware of. Not every Tom *** and Harry can apply. Program seems to be more of one for groups such as veterans groups, shelters, etc... non-profit
groups that make a public contribution. I know there is an application for this proceedure and if it is anything like the normal dealer applications, it won't be a simple piece of cake.

There was a group here (a veterans group) selling raffle tickets for a NYC Flyer Set a couple years back. I recall they had the list price of the set as over $400! Fortunately I happened to have a Lionel catalog with me (as I almost laways do) and I could correct their misleading info... they didn't want to believe me at first either until confronted with the actual catalog. I still bought a ticket. I guess they thought making the set worth more would help enhance ticket sales.
