Morning.  Yesterday, guessers said big line of thunder storms coming.  Nope!!!  Showers today.  ???  We'll see.

I have photos I need to get off of aux. hard drive.  Buckeye and crew at those bridges.  One even had a newly painted new diesel engine in Conrail.

Picked up oldest Granddaughter from DIL's Raleigh PD office.  Wifey and her gone to the mall and etc.

Have a good one.

Good morning,

Rain overnight and more on the way here.

Well everything is in the mail on the dehumidifier so we will see how it turns out. I don't like letting the basement get too humid with the layout down there.

SJ, I have never had a fridge that makes as much noise as this one from Frigidaire. Sounds like someone stepping on a cat some times. Surprise

Yesterday my friend Mark showed up at 5:00 with my trailer then Brain came by and we all drank too much beer.  Beer Was fun. Whistling

Mark managed to total that new Bush cutter in 8 hours of use. He brought over the destroyed parts for me to look at. So I went over the damage and told him what he needs to do to repair it and make it better. There was a reason it was only $1,700 and the others were 3K. He has a good plan now and something to do before he uses it again. He basically screwed up the arm that holds the swing blades. So some reinforcement and re-config the bolts that hold the blades and press work to get it back straight should help.

Not much else going on here today.

Good Morning,

Once again the benefits of the forum saves me.   Ever since I have finished the reconstruction of my layout, I have had difficulties with the DCS signal strength.  Previously I would get 8's & 9's all the time.  Now it has been extremely erractic and typically around 3's & 4's.  I've been working on this issue for over a month!  Yesterday I gave Roy a call, before I either just tear it all down, or rip it up and start over.  After just talking about the problem and review basics, Roy asked if the "magic lamps" were in place and connected.  The light bulb goes on, (pun intended), I had two magic lamps, previously.  One was burned out, neither were connected.  So I connect 4, one for each channel.  Turn on the layout, WOW 8's, 9's and even 10's everywhere.  I think I even heard a couple of engines on the display shelf start up!  The problem I have been working on for over a month, RESOLVED in 30 minutes after a conversation with Roy!!!  THANKS ROY !!!!

Kay asked me why they are called "Magic Lamps", here is my explanation.  Imagine a monorail sytem.  The track is the wire, and the monorail represents the current flow generated by the light bulb.  The DCS signal "clamps" onto the monorail car, and gets down the track much easier.  Effectively the signal avoids all the pot holes and obstructions the monorail car absorbs.  She said that makes perfect sense.  Smile

Things about the same here with Kay's family, but it could change any day.

Chief, I was a little concerned about your post, having to pick up your grandaughter at the PD.  I hope she isnt in very much trouble.

Dennis, You were pretty sly, getting the lawn cut while it was cooler.

Mike C, Unfortunately IF we had some of the soccer matches here, it could be chaos.  There are still people raising heck here from the game a week ago.

Ray, Maybe you should consider getting a bird?  Hope things work out with your family members.  Don't dismay regarding the pool, I've done that more than once.

Buckeye, "Just Askin", Wouldn't it be better to just knock the container off, as oppossed to taking out a bridge?  Even though the bridge sacrifice would potentialy be more profitable for some folk?

Kev, Your comment reminds me of the lyrics to "Home on the Range".

Don, "knocking the container off" would most likely derail the train, too, closing the line and damaging more cars.  Below you will see a tunnel modified with "Mouse Ears" for clearance.

Good evening from overcast 70°F Southern Ohio,

A busy weekend has spilled over into a busy work week.  I did get the stump grinder from the rental place and it was the berries to grind the stumps.  I ground down 30 arm sized stumps and one 24" diameter stump in three hours.  After working the stumps on the reclaimed flat I chose not to use the grinder on the bank because I judged it was too steep to work the tool safely, so returned the grinder for ½ day rental.  I was talking to the crews putting in a big water line and offered to take some of their fill dirt they are digging out.  I was two blocks away so they brought two dump truck loads to help fill in next to the garage where I want to put in a pad to set the camper.  Gabriel and I spent the next few hours spreading the dirt and building up the bank with the concrete asphalt rocks and bricks from the fill.

To complicate matters we lost water pressure Saturday morning and it did not return until late Sunday.  The utilities are replacing an ancient water line and the work is creating water quality issues.  Sunday was my bride's birthday and we went out for dinner.  I got her a new pair of sandals she had been wanting.  And while she was visiting her mom in the hospital for a mild stroke replaced the hard wired smoke detectors.

Don & Roy – Great job on the troubleshooting!

I'm going to bed early tonight! May God Bless

Jim

Good evening all,

Interesting day.  Too rainy for a walk at noon.  Soccer practice with high school boys cancelled as well.  Some one hacked both my credit card and email account to order something from Home Depot.  Cancelled the card before the charge went thru and changed email password.  Very disturbing.  Watched Argentina defeat Nigeria with a late goal.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning.  Got the addition thingy done at PNC Bank.  Great folks.  State Employees CU has gotten too big headed.  No more messing with Wells Fargo. No

Now to food security meeting in Raleigh.

Don, I use that RealTrax stuff.  Good track.  Switches are horrible.  I use lighted lockons so I know what tracks are "hot".  Seems to fix signal problems.  Getting away from MTH engines.  Too finiky.

Hope all have a good one.

Evening,

More storms this evening. Lotsa rain, we are quite soggy. Trees falling from mush soil.

MikeC - good catch on the card, prayers for Lucas. Wow - news said Germany knocked out in first round, first time since the 1930's.

Phish - great deal for the dirt. One pays big bucks for a dump truck of dirt here. Big project stump grinding! Hope it comes out the way you wanted. Prayers for your wife's mom.

Chief - no more MTH - withdrawal?

Good Evening,

Busy day, met with our computer guru, and addressed a couple of issues. Also ended up changing over from Firefox to Chrome.  A very successful meeting.

At the end, we were discussing various things, and I told him about our Iguana issues.  We stepped out onto the patio, and he asks if that is it on our roof?  Sure was the bigger one no less.  I didn't have time to launch an attack, had to leave.

Then went to Kay's parents house to babysit her dad.  She took her mom to a Dr appt..  Also waited for the guys to pick up the hospital bed that we had rented.  The VA provided him with one, which was delivered yesterday.  (His to keep!)

Then came home to check on the lizard, didn't make any real progress just chased each other around the pool.  He left me a BIG greetin on the deck as he left the yard.  His day is coming soon!

Checked on the layout, it is still running great!  (Chief check your magic lights, make sure they are good.  It made a huge difference on my layout.  You might want to consider place a 18v light closer to the TIU.  Location can be critical.  Suggest one light on each chanel.)

Ray, we sure could use some of that rain you are getting.  Hope none of the trees are near your house.

Mike, that REALLY is a fast reaction on the card!  Congrats, hope Lucas is doing OK!

Jim, There doesn't seem to be a lot that you and Gabriel don't attack.  Enjoy the time while you can.

Off for another busy day tomorrow, VA Optical in the am, then help Kay out a little bit at her parents. Then home.

Take Care ALL and Be Safe

Gooood Afternoon,

Well the heat starts today guys. Will get close to 90 today and then high 90s for the weekend.

Washed and waxed the John Deere Gator CX that will be 13 years old on 8-13-18. Looks a lot better. Seems like yesterday I bought it. Almost too hot to do much else.

Rich, I used to have one of those CA dusters in the GTO. They work slick on a quick wipe down. You can check it out here.

Good evening all,

Hot outside.  Got some very good advice from co-worker concerning Lucas' situation which I passed onto him.  Wife wanted to go see Jurassic World tonight.  There have been better in the series, but still serviceable.  Did not watch any footie tonight (how will I survive???)  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

tired but wide awake.

Kinda down. Daughter found out yesterday she needs a 3rd surgery. The margin was found but to small. It's 1mm and the minimum is 2mm. Beginning to have doubts about the doctor.

Looking like daughter and family won't be joining the rest of the clan at da beach week after next.

Garden is suffering from too much rain. Odds are good at least half won't survive. Mrs' flower bulbs haven't been put in yet. Putting them in one way or another before the beach trip.

Today I finally got the 1st tree cut up. Took the saw off the Oliver and put on the log splitter this evening. Tomorrow Mrs will run the lever while I handle the logs.

Looking like hot with only a chance of showers for a few days. Son will probably cut hay tomorrow.

Best try to sleep.

Prayers for those in need

Banks, don't get down on the doctor yet.  The approach today is to preserve as much breast tissue as possible when treating surgically.  Stay positive and be glad that they want to make sure the proper margin has been resected.

Dr. Chas??  There is no political comment in my post. Just an observation on the health care system and how it works today. There was a day before your time when most hospitals were sponsored by a church. Today the hospitals and networks are run by business interest and conglomerates. It is all driven by money today IMHO.

It is not a question of getting down on the doctors but getting the right choices.

I may just understand where Banks is and what his daughter is dealing with more than some. My wife Sandra went through the same cancer in 2005. It pays to question everything they do and why, to be sure they are doing everything that can be done. Things change fast and some may not be up to date. JMHO

Charlie,  thanks for your concern but I guess I'm tainted by 25+ years off dealing with local healthcare involving my parents, my in laws, my kids and Mrs and I.

Granted there have been doctors and nurses who've been outstanding. However there have been many issues as well. I won't go into detail but unfortunately I've had way more bad experiences than good involving both Doctors and staff.

About 20 years ago there was 2 hospitals in Altoona. Both fairly sizeable but one was considerably larger. Don't remember the how or why but they combined into Altoona Regional Health system.  Then things started going down hill. They operated both campuses for a few years. Then purchased the defunct mall in the city.

Spent several million renovating it into an "outpatient center" and closed the smaller of the facilities. The downward trend accelerated. Not enough beds or staff. Housekeeping was terrible. Patients spent days in the ER waiting on a bed. Doctors were discouraged from visiting patients in favor of "HOSPITALISTS" employed by the hospital. For the most part they had accents that made them almost impossible to understand.

About 5 years ago the hospital decided to allow UPMC out of Pittsburgh take it over. Local healthcare fell off a cliff at that point. Staffing levels fell even more. Most local physicians groups were forced to become part of UPMC or lose hospital privileges. The local health equipment suppliers are being squeezed out.

The biggest problem I see is that UPMC is also a health insurance provider and one by one refusing to accept other coverage.  I have a real problem with a healthcare provider being a healthcare insurance provider. Procedures are being denied.

Kinda like auto insurance provided by a body shop. Fix it as cheap as you can.

Maybe I know more than I should but I spent lots of time in the hospital doing the electrical work for several of the above mentioned renovations.

Rant over

Morning All!

Wow! They weren't kidding about this weekend's weather. Already 90, going to hit 116 this afternoon with the humidity index. I took the pooch for a quick walk, so he won't have too much cabin fever today.

Banks/Kev - We've experienced hospital mergers and cut backs too. Even when the Mrs. had her hip done a few weeks ago, it was in and out. It's all a turnstile business now. Continued prayers for your daughter, though.

Roy - I like Kev's idea about the humidifier for the boat. Is there a way you can prop up some of the cover to allow some ventilation?

Don - I see the iguana dilemma continues........

Rich - Hope the car show isn't a bust like last week. On a side note, I found myself watching a bunch of FDNY videos on YouTube the other night. I can't believe all of the morons who were double parked or just idling in the street waiting for a parking spot. Would not want to be a firefighter in the Big Apple......

Have a good one and prayers.

Yep hot at least 97 so they say.

Will be mostly an indoor day.

I just finished replacing the flapper and fill valve on one of the toilets. It's been tinkling for about a week..Easy and quick just lazy I guess. With 3 bathrooms I always have at least one set of these 2 items on hand. Nothing new in my train world, for the most part big ticket items are off my list now.

It's hot in OHIO today, but it will be July tomorrow.  I remember as a kid delivering the evening paper and seeing the bank thermometer hit 101 degrees at about 4 pm. in the summer.  I just kept peddling that bike that summer and that fall got an A in gym class.

Roy..... I don't have a "magic" lamp on the layout. Mine has worked perfect for years. Why the difference?

BTW, does anyone here collect the trains made by Kusan?

Chief....I use PNC Bank for several things and have found them to be very good.  I do almost everything electronic except for deposits and I have used my cell phone once or twice to send a check.

Don..... I thought the Iguana was an endangered species in California and you should let your house and lot be overwhelmed by them.
