Beautiful sunny day here in Nova Scotia but I'm keeping an eye on that Nor'easter headed up the US seaboard. I do a little storm chasing from time to time.

Kev...My condolances and prayers for your family.

28 Days

I remember the days when the Chief had a rug runner of a layout.  Then he built a layout that had plywood for grass and a hole in the wall. Then he bought the box, well I think he bought the box. Whistling

Good evening all, been layed up all week with my virus.  I think I'm having a relapse of what I had a month ago.  I thought I was getting over it when whamm!  It's back again.  Went for another chest Xray today because of a lot of coughing.  I had one three weeks ago.  Guess they want to see if there is any change.  At least this time it's beginning to feel like a regular cold with runny nose, sneezing and all that.  At least I can deal with that.  Got word today that my brother in Virginia with stage 4 cancer sold his Well Craft boat and motor.  He is selling off all his fishing equipment.  Very sad because I know it meant a lot to him.  It was a big part of his life.  Hope he can hang on until I get there in April and also see My sister in Jacksonville N.C.  She is home from the hospital now and is living with her daughter. They fixed up a nice room for her.  She is selling her house and all her furniture.  Sad situation.  We had a good rain all day today and maybe more tomorrow.  We need it.

Morning all!

Just a quick pop in, while I sip on my coffee. (No Bailey's, though.Sad )

RT -Good news!

Dennis - 3.23? Wow..... Elon Musk must be happy with those prices!

Ray - I really hope you get some of the "wee bit o'luck" soon. I was thinking about the same thing when the time comes to sell off my trains. Hopefully, that's many years away.....

Sir James - Yes, Dave did extend my a guest invitation sometime down the road, too. He told me he bit the bullet and ordered a Niagara. I told him I'd love to see it in action when it arrives.

Kev - I'm sure buzzing around the bike was a welcome break for you. A picture for us to see would have been nice! Big Smile

Have a good one and prayers.

Evening Fellas

Well we ventured out into the wind this morning for our trip on The Western MD Scenic Railroad. The kids actually went to bed last night without an arguement, negotiation, or backtalk! We arrived in Cumberland @ 10:00 and did some touristy things - C&O Canal & Towpath Museum, visited the WMSR Gift Shop, etc till we picked up our tickets @ 10:30. About 10:50 #501 in all her glory pulled up to the station with a nice consist of passenger cars and a beeming red caboose. As we stood waiting a nice fellow dressed in a nice, clean, black suit with a black hat with gold conductor emblem on the front walked out and arranged the gangplank to the passenger platform. The family and I were first inline and up the ramps. That nice looking fellow turned out to be Fifedog! We were greated with a bright beeming smile and a 'Welcome Aboard'. I'll tell ya, it was good seeing my ol' bud! Got a couple picks of Fifer with TheQ. Smile Matthew was a bit shy when The Conductor asked him to announce we were ready to board Sad, but the nice little man behind us gleefully announced "ALL ABOARD!" to lend a helping hand! Smile We had a very nice ride up through the narrows, through Brush Tunnel, past Mt Savage, and on up to Frostburg. 16 miles in 1 hour. While in Frostburg we got to see #501 roll onto the turntable, and Fife did the honors to turning her around for the return trip. We got a turn around the turntable from Fife as well, both kiddos loved it, but I think Christina was in 7,000th heaven from the look on her face!

Had a nice talk with Fife about the goings on, some sad, but really made TheQ and I desire a return trip to the mountains to visit Fifedom. Hopefully this Summer when the kiddos aren't in school, and maybe we'll do trip on one of the WVA tourist trains. (don't tell TheQ though)

RT - AWESOME NEWS ABOUT DONNA!

Banks - The update I received was 'weekends are really bad, mostly booked'... maybe we can talk him into a Friday visit in April and October? Wink

Buckeye is retiring? Surprise What is Chief going to do for his retirement funds now?

I better get a move on!

It never ends, now we found out her back problem, Donna has scoliosis. So I don't know her next move. She says she refuses any back surgery.

Good evening all, just taking it easy today and trying to get over my cold/virus.  My son came over and brought me lunch and did some house work.  I think the rain is just about over but still overcast.  Got to get my tax information ready for appointment with tax guy in two weeks.  My brother got a buyer for his boat.  It went real fast.  He said of course he will miss it but the way fishing is now, it's hardly worth the price of the trip to go out with limits on everything and overfishing by the commercial people.  BTW, I haven't heard anything about size limits for them.  They just dredge up everything.  I remember when my brother could catch enough fish in one trip to last several months in the freezer.  Years ago when I was just a toddler, the neighbors would all go pier fishing and bring back a washtub full of fish.  They would time their trip to a run of different species of fish.  They caught a lot of Croaker and Spot.  Sometimes they would get Flounder.  That was my favorite eating fish.  They caught blue fish off those piers too at Virginia Beach.

Good evening all,

Scored a Lionel 8030 IC diesel today at TCA meet.  It is not mint by any stretch but it gives and 3 position E unit motor to run my 1970 stuff.  Also got a Plasticville building.  Got the indoor outdoor carpet I need for my standard gauge layout for "landscaping" purposes.  Weather was good.  Went to Mass at 4:30.  Not much else going on.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening,
With all the talk and warnings regarding the rain storms this week, we sure didn't get much.  Tuesdays storm barely got the float to move in our rain gauge, today's storm didn't move it at all.

Spent the day in the train room installling Dwarf Signals, got 5 done, all wired via an isolation rail on the various tracks.  Really like the Z-stuff units, they have a 12v inverter & relay incorporated into the unit.

Talked to Chris this pm, he got the tour done at the mine this morning, and was on his way to Hollyweird.  I believe he will be there until Monday.  Said he would stop by here on his way back to the mine Monday night.

We picked up a bunch of Louis L'amore western CD dramatizations, they can really be addicting when driving.

RT, Sounds like things with Donna are getting better, at least situations that can be managed.

Dinner bell ringing, take care all.

Don

Going to be a great day for a winter hike. Going to be a balmy 4degC. Headed up to Tennecape on the Bay of Fundy to collect more manganese ore for the six O hoppers that I ordered. This area of Nova Scotia has abandoned manganese and barite mines, as well as gypsum quarries. I use all three of these materials as real loads in my HO trains, and I'll do the same in O. Have a wonderful day everyone.

PS. Low tide at 8:38 am and high tide 6 hours later at an astounding 49 feet higher. I can get in and off the beach this morning without getting trapped.

Morning All!

Looking to be a nice, sunny day out, but still a little nippy.

RT - Oh boy....... She can't get a break.

MikeC - The early MPC Geeps are my favorite. I wish Lionel would have continued with the wire handrails and smaller stanchions.

Brent- Nice trip! That's on my bucket list. Glad Fife gave you guys the VIP treatment.

Don - I like Z-Stuff too. We used their switch machines on my dad's layout and they work great.

DougM - I'm usually on "patrol" as well. Ah, to be a hypocritical parent!! Smile

DJ/Old School - You can't beat getting your loads at the source. That's going to make for one shiny looking train! The tide there never ceases to amaze me. I was going to PM you the other day, but I wasn'table to. I had some unrelated questions for you.

Have a good one and prayers.

Afternoon.  58 degrees and real breezy.  Actually fills chilly with the winds.  Went to brunch at new restaurant in R'ville.  Too much food for a cheap price.  Want to take a nap now.

Ray, eastern NC was known for its herrins and big white and hickory shad.  Rock fish too [stripers].  Now big limits on rock fish and shad.  Can't keep a herrin.  They use to pull nets in the Roanoke River and salt them down for shipping out.  We use to go in the creeks [down east they are big] and use dip nets in the spring.  Herrins were running up the creek to spawn.  We could catch enough to do big cookings.  Cut off head, scale and clean out.  Slash the sides.  Dump them in washpots full of grease.  Fry them hard.  Eat bones and all.  Lots of corn bread fried in little patties.  Now all gone.

Hope all have a great week ahead.

To get from my house to the manganese dioxide deposits in Tennecape I crossed the planet's 45th parallel. A sign marks the spot. It's my all time favorite sign.

Old School.....

I've seen many of the signs scattered around the U.S. Photo below is near Gaylord, Michigan. However, crossing the 49th parallel and seeing the boundary line cut through the forest between Montana and British Columbia is much more interesting.

Best I can tell is it is some sort of local Man click. I move past those. JMHO!

More fun to be had out here in train world than to try to fit into something you will end up wishing you did not.
