I just put a 1668 together from a bare shell, and that's what I did.

A few engines did have the headlight wire run directly to the collector plate. Replacing that wire would be rather difficult. I'd suggest running the wire to the e-unit, as TrainLarry suggests.

Welcome to the forum. The headlamp ultimately gets wired to the pickups, usually thorough the contact on the e unit that connects to the rollers. See here for service manual with wiring diagram for the loco. http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=799     Larry

I have the maintenance info but it doesnt show how to wire the head lamp   it just says to colllector plates   any help is appreciated
