Mononflyer,

HI, been away for the holidays so I missed your post, I am glad to heart you got it repaired, and it sounds like the cow survived being run over by the train.

Can you post the photo of the underneath of the unit?  I have one stored away in one of those boxes, and will be installing it soon, I hope.  It would be nice two know that it is wired correctly from tyne start.

Thank you,

Aflyer

Well, I found a picture of the underside of the base, and rewired the cow. It works great now.

What I need is the wiring inside the accessory. I found an additional section of track that was dead and fixed it. Now when the cow is on the track, the track is still powered even though the fiber pins are in place. The resistor still shows 10 ohms.

Right now, the #3post is wired to the metal contact that is underneath the base. The resistor is also wired to the #3 post and the metal arm under the base that moves the cow. The wire from the #1 post is spliced Into the wire from the metal arm and also the resistor. This gives a connection between post 3 and 1via the resistor, but the track is still getting power even though the track is isolated.

so the first time I had the cow on the track, the locomotive ran it over and I still don't know why the track is not dead.

I found this by doing a search online, outside of this forum.  YOu could probably find it by using either Google or Bing and typing in American Flyer Cow on the track wiring, as your search parameter.  Hope it helps.

Sorry, that's one I don't have but will be monitoring this for reference.

American Flyer Cow on Track
Posted by Mononflyer on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 8:29 PM

Hey All,

does anyone have a wiring diagram for the underside of the cow on track accessory? I have hooked mine up and the cow moves, but when it moves back, power is not restored to the insulated track sections. Looking underneath I see a rectangular resistor or something, but it looks like some wires had been soldered by a previous owner.  Any diagrams of the wiring under the base would be appreciated.

thanks,
