Thank you all, for the time being I have used a disused small stapler, but these ideas are great, and I will keep them in mind
Late to the show. I thought I replied to this one. Get your self stick on aluminum wheel weights. It's what I use. I get it free from work.

I run a unit train with about 10 Lionel ore cars some of which came with ore loads but most did not. For the ones without the plastic loads, I cut a piece of homasote board to fit the ore car, applied a layer of Elmer's glue and sprinkled a layer of kitty litter (Cheap). Repeat until desired depth ... allow to dry completely then spray paint with desired color. Not only does this look good but it adds significant weight. If not enough weight, you can add screws/washers etc as suggested above. Good luck
washers, screws, nails, lead fishing weights, lead wheel weights, etc.
You could also get some ballast or other material and mix up some white glue then form to the size of the car... lots of options.

Prototype track spike.

I have a modern era ore car that's pretty light weight, I'd like to add some weight to it so it won't derail behind the Lionel Docksider I have. The fake load is removable. Any suggestions?
