I participated in a meet for the NMRA yesterday.  I was invited to come and display and run some vintage trains to give folks an idea of the history of the hobby.  I thought I would share a few photos.

There were lots of questions about the age of the trains that I was displaying, and I heard many stories about the trains that folks had when they were children.  It was a great day, made even better by being able to run some trains that I don't normally have the space to put down some track and run.

Lionel 746 from 1958, A recent purchase I made at an auction.

Runs good after I repaired the motor. Best post war smoker I have seen, uses liquid smoke fluid just like the new ones. I had to repair the seized smoke piston too.

I would be curious to know what all your Lionel buddies say when this car rolls by with "AMERICAN FLYER" proudly emblazoned on the sides.  Stick out tongue

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

That's a really neat idea, one that I may shamelessly steal Big Smile

Does it navigate o27 curves? It looks like the centers of the trucks are a bit far from the ends of the car, which could make it hit the car it's coupled to, causing a derailment. If that's the case, finding a coupler (or complete truck) with a longer couple arm would probably cure it.

Since I don't like posting to photo threads without posting a picture, here's a shot from a while ago of a Marx caboose going past a Hafner station. Colorful isn't it?
