Lionel Pre War 1663 Switcher front engine coupler

I believe that there should be a little panel with two jacks inside the cab of the locomotive, along with two wires terminated with miniature banana jacks. See the following information, provided by Olsens:

Thanks for the feedback.  I will have to disassemble the tender to check the wiring.  Currently the male plug powers the light in the tender.  I'm wondering if a wire plug is missing.

That sounds correct. That would be the only way to power the coupler from an uncoupling track.

Can anyone tell me where the wire from the automatic front coupler goes?  Does it connect through the engine to the male pin connected to the tender and the rear shoe pick up on the tender?
