One of the sliding doors should have a contact that bridges those two terminals your wrote about.
The car is designed to work only when that door is open.
The circuit is open when the door is closed.
If you want to have the car work all the time, then you can either solder a wire across the two terminals, or move the collector wire to the other terminal.

I've got a problem with my 3530 Gen car I just purchased online. Initially, it did not work when powered up on a powered section of track. I removed the shell to expose the inners, so's to see what was not, like it should be. I replaced the dried, hard wire from the roller contact, to the terminal it "was" on to start with. Still didn't work. HOWEVER, if I removed the wire from the pick up roller to the terminal just above the original location, all works! So picture this, for those of you that are familiar with this accessory, there are (3) terminals with wires attached. Looking at the insides of the car, viewing from the terminal side, one on the left, which is also the spade terminal for one of the remote light conncetors, then (2) more on the right. Focusing on the two on the right, when the roller pickup is soldered to the lower terminal (as it was originally), there is NO power to the light/motor. IF I remove it an connect it to the terminal just above it, it works! Now, doing it this was may work, BUT that's NOT how it was designed to work. I'd expect there's something going on with the way the terminals are insulated??? I'm sure somebody has run across this type of problem, so I'm hoping, they can pass the solution on to me (and anyone else that has or will experience the same problem?)
