According to the postwar Lionel factory service sheets on your locomotive, the part number is 236-3.

As has already been posted, Olsens probably has them.

Jeff Kane has used ones for $4.00

I couldn't find anything on a trailing truck for it. I have the sloped-back tender.

The #242 came with both a slope-backed tender, and the more common 1130T short streamlined tender.  For parts, try Olsen:

Howdy all,

I have recently acquired my uncle's old Lionel 242 steamer. I have a couple of questions:

1. How can I find a trailing truck for it? It is missing the trailing truck so I cannot pull a tender with it.

2. What year is it? It has a plastic body with a 2-way selector.

Thanks,

Brody
