I suppose you're right.  Thanks for the advice, Fifedog.

Heck no, leave it alone.  You can find plenty of those cars with the herald.  If you've come across a factory misprint, it would make it more desirable in some circles.

Enjoy.

Perhaps a pic...?

Here you go -- I had to wait for a bit of sunlight to get a good shot:

It's the same on both sides.

Quick edit: all the samples I've seen have the circle PRR logo.  You may have a rare car there.

As you can see, it's a 1993 Standard O car, with no circled keystone.  I don't know if 1993 is old enough to be considered any kind of rare factory variation.  Should I be annoyed and start looking for a circled-keystone decal, or just let it alone?

All depends on the era of the car.  Might want to check out the PRR Historical Society, and some books by John Teichmiller (sp?).  And whatever you do, don't trust LIONEL (or even MTH these days) for prototype accuracy.

Perhaps a pic...?

PRR Merchandise car: no keystone?

I just picked up a 1993 Lionel Standard O PRR Merchandise Car (#17220) from my local dealer today.  It wasn't till I'd gotten it home and put it on the layout that I noticed something seemed odd about it.

When I looked closely, I finally saw the problem: there is no PRR keystone on the right side of each door (or anywhere else).

Is this some kind of known factory error?  I've never heard of or seen a PRR Merchandise car without the distinctive PRR keystone.
