Did you create the buildings & trees by drawing them by hand or did you use a computer to draw them? I'd love to see more of how you went about building the scenery if you have any photos of that.

I recently found some Marx windups ( a little rougher shape than what you have) but I'd love to create the same kind of layout some day, my biggest  problem with trains is I tend to obsess over every small detail untill it remains unfinished...I'm hoping the wind up tin helps me break that habit and gets me running trains soon.

Thanks for posting the layout.  Very nice.  The Hafner sets reminds me of one I could have gotten at a TCA meet.  I really like the clockwork sets.  This gives me ideas for my New Marx set that I recently obtained.

Here is my Marx 027 Windup Portable/Storable Layout, 34" x 43", 9.25 square feet.  I have attempted to build a compact layout that would fold up and have storage for the engines and cars.  The buildings, vehicles, trees and people are an attempt to look appropriate for the 1940's - 1960's when these Marx and Hafner windup trains were available as an economical alternative to electric trains.  The layout is painted right on the plywood, green to simulate grass, brown for the road and gray for track ballast.  I also added extra ties under the windup tubular track.  Windup toy trains are a fun alternative to electric more scalelike trains.  I think I have succeeded in capturing the simple toylike nature of these wonderful vintage toys from the past.
