None of the information on the OGR site regarding paying to post on June 1 has been changed, and they won't say what they're considering until they're ready to announce it. Considering the bru-ha-ha that's arisen from their last announcement, their attitude doesn't surprise me.

Regarding Rich Melvin reading the CTT forum, hey, it's a free country. He can read whatever he likes.

I haven't been posting much because, like Elliot, I don't start many topics & like to help out if I can or comment on something that interests me. Most of the posts this past week that I've read haven't fallen into those categories, and I've been busy with a train related software development project on which Elliot & I are collaborating. Plus I just got back to work today after taking off 4 days last week, & was busy with the family & the yard, etc.

Well Tony, It's FREE UP UNTIL JUNE.[;)][:D][:D] Then in some parts it costs $18.

Dave (F J and G) mentioned that he was having his inspection today, so he wouldn't be posting, but would be back tomorrow. When Dave gets going, I tend to put in a buck's worth [2c] at a time.

Point well taken Odd-d. By the way, I heard that Rich was lurking around here last night, and was actually sent evdience to support that fact. Who else would use the name Rich Melvin? He actually signed up back in November. I hope he read my comments.[;)]

Hmmmmm, very interesting.[swg]

Big Boy---A certain amount of "us vs them" is to be expected whenever a group of disgruntled people move in at once with their own ideas. And there is sure to be a little resentment especially if the new people don't bother to learn the ropes at the new place. The point of my post is that there are a lot of followers over at OGR and posts run something like this:

Post 1---I don't like the idea of being charged for posting to this forum......

Post 2---Me neither. I'M not paying it......

Post 3---Well I"M leaving and going to the CTT forum......

Post 4---So am I.....

Post 5--- Me too.....

Post 6--- Well I'm leaving too AND I'm cancelling my subscription to OGR....

Post 7--- Me too. AND I'm going to SUE 'em....

Post 8--- Yeah, me too....

Post 9--- Me too AND I'm going to subscribe to CTT too....

and so on and on. Each one seeking approval from the group. Then they sign up over here and then announce to all and sundry that they are "refugees" from OGR and the OGR forum.........and then you hardly hear from them here again, and they are merrily posting over at OGR forum again. I think the gang has moved on again. They do that once it occurs to them that nobody is impressed with their groupthink and doesn't care whether they stay with OGR forum or come to this one or move on. They just sound so silly to people who have no idea of what they are complaining about and really don't care because they have their own problems. You all here have been very kind and patient and perhaps tolerantly amused at the "refugees" in a more mature manner. Odd-d

Not really, Joe, but since you are here it's good to see you. But most of the other guys made a big entrance and seem to have slunk away. I don't think of myself as a "refugee" or runaway; I think of myself as enjoying the forums. I don't "belong" to any forum like I belong to my church. I'm just enjoying myself...just like you do. I'm still checking in to BOTH places, but I haven't had much to say, so rather than invent some inane thread about some non-train-related topic, I've kept my keyboard silent.

I belong to both OGR and CTT.I stated in my introduction that I don't post much but read the fourms daily.I don't log in unless I have something to say. When OGR goes to pay,I will read only as long as that function does not change.

Still HERE!

But did you hear Rich is offering a NEW DEAL to all those left in OGR!
For a limited time he will allow you to post for FREE if you kiss his As* at York.

I understand a line of OGR'ers is forming now as you read this!.

Odd-d, sorry about the "us and them" bit, It was the topic title that prompted me to say that. I have been around a bunch, as is evidenced by my post count, but I also share my time with the MR and Trains Magazine forums, which is why the number is so huge.

The other reason you MAY THINK you aren't seeing as much of me is that I perfer certain types of topics, especially ones where I feel that I can be of help. You will find that I don't start topics very often. I am here a lot.[swg]

Well, it's been a quiet week here, the OGR forum was getting slow too. I think it's due to the holiday, yardwork, etc. Also, I would think that a LOT of us O gaugers are going to York, and to the attractions in the surrounding area, so they aren't here posting.
That said, the hot topic on OGR is the new MTH catalog- seems that the new items are showing up on the website- before the sneak peek is up for us MTHRRC members! If you use the search function and look for a specific engine(like GP-40) or a specific item(like subway) or road name, the new items are listed! and some of them have pictures, too!
Have Fun!

I'm spending most of my time on Model Train Journal's forum, although I pop in here from time to time too. I check in on OGR some, but have pretty much stopped posting there since I won't be paying the fee.

Hi Odd-d, I'm a little worried that there is still a bit of "us and them" left here. On the other hand it has been a little quiet this past week, and that has me scratching my head too. I suspect that part of what we are seeing (or rather not seeing) is due to the fact that there is a holiday this week. Also as the weather gets nicer most people tend to do less with trains, BUT NOT ME of course[;)].

I thought I might have heard something about Rich trying to soften his new policy a bit, but maybe it was just my imagination. He may have come to the conclusion that charging was a bad idea, but has painted himself into the corner by announcing it.

There will always be the die-hards that would rather pay than switch, but too many of the fence sitters were scared off by the announcement. And we all know that a forum without a diverse following is like the sound of one hand clapping.

The dust is still hanging in the air on this one, but this forum has become a lot more interesting as a result. I still expect more action as we get closer to June, but only time will tell. I feel that we have a great group here, and with only a minimal amount of friction, have all handled this transition well.[^][:D][8D]

Well, Ezak-- you're right....I am here...and there....and EVERYWHERE!!! But All those guys are pretty silent here. My footsteps echo as I walk down the dark and empty corridors. It's lonely here, even Big Boy seems to have gone on a vacation. Your little echo, Odd-d

hey,
I"m visiting both forums right now. Honestly I'm not really posting too much right now but I have added the CTT forum to my start up tabs on mozilla (I have about 5 pages that are pulled up with tabs as my "home page") but ogr is still on there. When they start requiring money to post (in june or so)I will completely ditch them. ..I've also been gone away at family medicine rotation and have had next to no access to computers.[:D]

YOO-HOO, OGR guys...Where ARE You?........
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 10, 2004 10:07 AM
.........are you still here? I don't hear very much from you. That's strange. They were here just a few days ago. Hmmm-mm. They were right here saying all sorts of smart-alecky things about the OGR forum. It seems like there was too much frivolitity over there, not enough serious talk about trains they said. Too much chit chat and not enough really technical stuff for beginners..........HELLO....HELLOO-OOoo? Could it be that they went back to the OGR forum and caused it to have record setting participation? I know they are around here , somewhere. Does anybody have a flashlight. I always said there were a bunch of yes-men and followers over there, and now they have followed someone back over there. Odd-d
