I have the K-Line SF F-7, stock number 25301 shown here. I run mine with TMCC, but I just tried it using conventional and it runs fine, nice and slow start with 5 alluminum passenger cars. The sound does cut out at the extreme low voltage, so a battery would be desireable in conventional mode.

The appearance is slightly different than the F-3. The grille is continous along the top of the shell rather than separate screens.

I've had the engine about 1 1/2 years without a problem. I run it often because it is my favorite engine.

K-line F-3s

I am considering purchasing a set of k-line Santa Fe F-3s . How do these engines operate in conventional mode? Has anyone had any problems with them? I have the 2343 postwar Lionel version, and the MTH (circa 2000) versions. How does the detailing compare with these. To be honest, the MTH versions aren't much differant than the postwar Lionel versions. I am still trying to decide if Williams or K-line F-3s will better suit my needs, as the discount prices on both seems to be very close. Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated.
