Oh Dave, I was hoping this topic would sleep with the fishes. This has been a dangerous topic in the past, and has cost this forum a good member. Now I see that it wasn't you that raised it, and that helps. I can't fault a new guy for rummaging through the pile, but it may be time to lock up the "dirty laundry".

Back to the original post. Yes, K-Line and other companies do make profits off the war, be it Desert Storm or Iraqi Freedom.

K-Line makes some excellent products at low prices but they occasionally goof. For example, some folks are complaining about their new SP Daylight cars, which are painted in Milwaukee Road colors.

It is amazing that this topic would generate so much interest and polarization. K-Line
has used this is a marketing ploy by creating controversity. Personally these items are not for me, but one man's trash is another's treasure.

They are definitely different. I'm not particularly interested, but I don't dislike them
either. At least K-Line isn't following in lock-step with the other manufacturers by
making the "same old, same old..." K-Line is trying to appeal to everyone in the
hobby by offering variety. Actually, it's just a variation on the "cops and robbers"
car offered by another maker.

Even if you don't like that particular item, don't hate the whole line, K-Line has some
neat other stuff!

Many of us so called regulars here have been over at the OGR Forum, me included. Rules of courtesy and respect work both ways. Besides, we're here to talk trains. Not to attack others because the trains they like are different from someone else. It's not a matter of us versus them... forum versus forum.

Hey, these are just train cars by K-Line. If you like 'em, you'll buy 'em. If you don't, you won't. They're not on my list, but if I saw one for a deal, I might get it just to tear it apart, rebuild and repaint it into something I'd like better. That for me, is part of the fun of the hobby. If I waited for someone to make the trains I want in the size I need, I'd still be waiting. So I'm lucky I can do it myself, do it well and have fun too.

I hope you guys from the OGR that posted here will give it a chance. I was told there was a thread about "where am I" on the OGR forum. Yeah, as an 027 guy I kinda felt out of place there many times and so I said as much. But folks were really nice in their posts, and that felt good. Sometimes a little kindness goes a long way... it did with me. I'm not writing off anything at this point.

So it's not really fair to dump on one Forum or another, at least because of individual's opinions. With these forums, folks will figure out where they feel comfortable and that's where they'll be. This thread is kind of like one of those "roll call" threads... here or not here, yes or no... you like the cars or you don't.

There is certainly no shortage of other types of new trains that are available for purchase.

There's no need for any "us versus them" or "OGR Refugees versus CTT Regulars" - "refugee" really isn't quite proper either - I for one am expanding my forum horizons beyond OGR. It just so happens that the recent decision to take two steps back by OGR mgmt has been the catalyst to get me looking elsewhere for reasonable discussion of O guage related subjects. I'd like to think that anyone who starts visiting and posting here (or anywhere else for that matter) will quickly become a "regular", reguardless of their past forum preferences.

Although I gotta admit - I HATE SMILIE FACES!!!!! The only one that expresses my feelings (especially about smilie faces) isn't there.......

Let's not get all worked up about these K-Line cars. Personally I wouldn't buy one, my train budget is too limited to buy junk like this, but if they turn your crank by all means order one up. So far I've got to hand it to Williams for avoiding producing stuff like this, most every other manufacturer has made some tacky stuff too. It's too bad that K-Line didn't spend their time and money upgrading some of their starter engines. I've got one of their little Alcos painted for the Santa Fe but I seldom run it. It looks good but runs like crap. If it ran like my Williams engines it would be on the track now.

Boy, what fun. Looks to me like the regulars here are a little sensitive about the new blood. Maybe everybody needs to take a giant step back, and remember this is a hobby.

Since everyone is putting in their two cents on forum ettiquette, here is mine:

1. Correcting other posters grammar is a no no. Its rude. Some mistakes are typos, others are not. It's irrelevant. This isn't English class.

2. Caps, bold face, and large text read like shouting. Nobody likes to be shouted at. Everyone thinks what they have to say is important, but no one is more important than anyone else. If we all shouted, no one could hear anything. Nix on these.

3. You gain respect on any forum by what you say, and the quality of your posts, and your willingness to help others, just like life. Seniority and post counts are irrelevant.

4. If you're joking, unless you know the recipient of the joke well, indicate so with an appropriate smiley. We can't read facial expressions here. This saves a lot of hurt feelings.

I don't always observe these a hundred percent myself, but I believe they are good guidelines.

Good one Pensy_fan, that is one of the hazards of toy trains. We expect accuracy on every piece, but unless it is marketed as a scale model, we shouldn't get our hopes up. On the other hand, if the manufacturers are going to spend the money to make a mold, one would think they would try to get it close.[banghead][swg]

Dontrainman, If you were refering to my use of large text, I do that sometimes when I want to make a point. I wasn't angry or yelling, but rather trying to be forceful and firm with that message, and use the size to call attention to it, lest it get lost in the shuffle.

Jack is a friend of mine, and I emailed him last night, and I thought he was just going to let this one go. I don't like to see this kind of bickering and name calling and finger pointing, and I'm quite sure that most members feel the same. The bottom line is that we all need to respect each other and get along.

You posted what could be viewed a 'HOT BUTTON" topic, and strong opinions should be expected. Not all of them will be the same as yours!!!

I posted a topic over on the MR forum last month, never expecting to get much argument, and one guy took offense with my remarks, and made some pretty nasty personal comments!! Although I was outraged, I did not respond directly to the guy, but instead watched as many of the other members responded saying that HE was out of line.

There are better ways to deal with disagreement than this, I consider you a friend, RELAX, TAKE A BREAK, GO RUN SOME TRAINS!!!! [:)]

I didn't know you two owned the forum. Should i have asked if I could post. ( Oh I forgot to capitalize the I ) . I did not call anybody stupid. I said it was a stupid comment. I don't see why anybody has to cross the line and mock religion because you don't like a train. That is what I deem a stupid comment not a stupid person. ( Did I spell everything right ) .
As for the two cars in question they are supposed to be funny. Comedy is a funny thing in itself. Some people get the joke and some people don't. So if you don't get the joke why do you have to mock the person that I believe was our savior. Thats ( Oops another one of those darned contractions ) crossing the line of good taste. If this post is indicitive of your forum I am sorry I ever looked here. I myself find them pretty funny. If you don't then so what.

Hi Alan, and welcome. If I want to waste my time trying to convince someone that a car is in poor taste, I certainly have that right. You know, since you guys came here, I've had more FLAMES in one day than ALL the time on this forum. Calling me stupid was never done until you new guys appeared! You see, here on THIS board, we let others speak their minds and then move on. You have now, so we move on.... We don't harp on the fact they may be wrong or that you disagree that I shouldn't be convincing, or, or, or. I said I like prototypical stuff, not that I am a stickler for it. If it looks like it reasonably might have existed on a real railroad (and of course it is in the paint scheme of my freelanced railroad) then I might be interested in it.

Further still, calling Amtrack Jack stupid is in and of itself crossing the line. And just calling it stupid doesn't (note the contraction) give your statement any credence. If you post reasoned statements to support your position, then I'll read. And if you take offense to someone trying to help you (in this case with your grammar), are you really the person we want to have on this forum?

And please stop trying to convince other posters that your (you're) point of view is the correct one. It's just your point of view!
