MTH PS 2.0
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 5, 2007 6:08 PM

I have a MTH trains with PS 2.0 using the Z1000 Transformer.  I have trouble getting the announcements to work, is there some way to wire an external switch to make this work better with out buying the DCS.

 Thanks

It is one of those things that is very very easy once you get it. At one time I couldn't get it to work now it is second nature. My 11 year old daughter got it the first time and has never had a problem.

 As for your question I don't know if anyone has figured out a dummy switch.

Buy DCS.  Easy to install and run.  Not as hard as you might think.  Save up and buy it.  I put it off at first too.  Once I moved, I loved it.  Added TMCC and love both.

I spent days trying to figure it out.  I sometimes still have problems.  Also, I think my directions show two different combinations between my 2-8-0 and F3 trains.  DCS is the easy fix.  Practice is the other one, but when you want to hear it now, ask your kid to do it for you.

MikeG;

 I also have MTH O locomotives (love them). Yes, I had a hard time getting the announcements to work. I too have a Z1000. Just practice, you will soon develop the "touch".

At least on my switcher locomotive (the only PS2 engine I have), I press the bell button once and the horn button twice to activate the sounds. Then all you have to do is push the direction button and the sequences will start. You have to press the buttons fairly quickly - I have discovered on my Lionel transformer that pushing the buttons about 1/2 second apart from eachother works very well. Any longer than that, however, could make the bell or horn sound.

I'm not quite sure about how the Freight Yard Sounds/Passenger Station Sounds work with the DCS system, though I think you just push a single button to activate a certian recording. I do know from watching DCS operate at hobby stores that it is easier than the sequences. Someday, I'll probably get DCS, but for now the button sequences are okay. You really have nothing to lose - it just requires a little practice. Big Smile [:D]
