Used RR-Track Software?

Hi all,

Does anyone know a place to get used RR-track software? I'm really interested in trying out this program, but I'm a college student with not much money. The program is $100 and thats a fairly large risk for me if I don't like it. I tried some of the free railroad design programs and didn't understand how to use them. I'd think there would be many RR-track programs up for sale after people designed and built their layout but can't seem to find anything on ebay.

Buy it - you will like it.

It is far and away the best product - very intuitive and quite accurate.

There really is no comparison between RR Track and the freeware products.

The one thing that kind of annoyed me with RR-Track is that in order to use the newest, updated libraries, i had to get the newest version of RR-Track(4.02). My previous version was 4.0, and the new libraries just wouldn't work with it. Other than that, it's a great program, and even though it costs $79.00 for the O gauge bundle, it's worth every penny.

I guess everyone who has it is very happy with it and keeps on using it.

I too have heard nothing but great things about it, but i hate buying software that i can't demo to verify it works like I need.

Think about it....M/S word, excel, powerpoint ...this site for goodness sake... all have problems and "issues".  but this software built in a garage somewhere is so perfect no one has any issues with it...and it works on every operating system and pc configuration with any printer that anyone may have EVER!....Bill gates should hire these guys. NASA should hire them.

In Oct, at York, i'll try a demo and if i like and can deal with the issues that are unspoken, then i'll buy it. Until then, i'll listen with amazement about how good it is and narry a problem.

I think that part of the reason we hold onto the program is that it is a very well done one and as they say, a layout is never really done.  We are always working on our next project and this program helps us do that.

Just an idea, you are in NJ?  I think there is a number of clubs and O gauge guys up that way.  Perhaps you could use someones and return it to them, or perhaps get them to work the program for you and come up with some ideas.

I have RTS tracl layout from atlas. it is free. it has many nice features (which I haven't learned to use yet). it starts with the board layout and has a nice group of track and accessory libraries.

I think I'm going to go with the least expensive. I want to build a layout with 0-27 profile tracks and o gauge switches. The Fasttrack comes with O and O27:

Guy at RRTracks insisted on me getting the cheaper version.  Worked great but was not perfect.  You have to do a little "tweeking" when you actually lay track.  Still a good tool.

At the risk of being PC incorrect (not computers), I am assuming you are not looking for a Free ride, of pirated copy of the software.  I have used the RR track, for quite a while, and have gotten free upgrades, and purchased some of the additional scales and libraries available.  I too have found the package very well developed.  However, it has not satisfied everyone of my specific desires.  It would have had to be written JUST for me to do that.

On the down side I have found one problem, (Don't know if it is software, or something I created)

When I use the Ross library for track, and I am mixing the various size curves, SOMETIMES the O42 curve will not display, then all of a sudden I will get a complete circle which is very difficult to remove.  I have NOT contacted RRtrack about it, because I havn't been able to define it well enough.

Some PERSONAL things I would like added:

Easier way to add text labels

Simulate a Engine or small train running on the track

BUT OF ALL THE SOFTWARE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED THIS ONE HAS BEEN THE MOST TROUBLE FREE, APPLICABLE TO THE APPLICATION.  HARDEST TO BREAK.

Go for it, it is worth it.  I do believe they keep a very close control of the package serial number and the customer information.  I have found the benefit of having the software is very cost effective.  Lot less expensive planning on the computer than in a train room.

With all the positive's I don't think you could do much better if you are truly serious.

Hi Chief,Do you remember what you ordered? Was it called fast track that I linked above? I'm a bit worried if I get the cheap version for $69.99 called fast track it will just be fast track and not 0-27. If it was 'Fasttrack', were marx 034 curves and marx switches included?

What about giving away a sealed software disk from an MTH starter set?  It's a lite version 4.02, but you can purchase lionel libraries off of the RR track website.  I have an extra one from a starter set I purchesed.  If it's not illigal, you can have it.  It comes with the MTH library only.

lionel2986 - Again I would like to emphasize, that I was NOT trying to be offensive, or Holier than Thou.  It is difficult with just the "text" to really communicate well.  (At least with my skills).  I appreciate your budget issues, and wish the best of luck.  I think you will like the software.  Especially if you have a working understanding of windows concepts.  I use the heck out of the layer capability, various renditions on different layers and can do all types of analysis.    Speaking of being "PC", is this font type offensive?

therein lies the problem - bad things happen when you stray from tubular (the most venerable and time proven of ALL track systems) . . .
