We've only just begun...

Hey everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself finally since I've been surfing around here for a while. My name is Jason and I grew up playing with my dad's collection of Lionel Postwar, MPC and on occasion I'd talk him into running one of his scale Williams brass engines. Now that I'm grown with a boy of my own, I've started my collection. Here's the beginning of my layout with two mainlines and a figure 8 inside the inside line. The track is k Line super snap and switches which is very nice track. Since I've taken these photos, I've gotten a new SP&S switcher which I really like and the old Lionel UP Alco's I used to play with as a boy. (Dad gave them to me.)

Anyway, my son and I are having fun!

Before the table was built.

Son, what did you do?

Welcome, since you have been surfing and checking us out, you no doubt have found this crowd to be fun and informative (mostly, with rare exception).  It sounds like you started like many of us here.  Postwar from our father, MPC or late PW of our childhood and then a return after life's other distractions (girls, college, marriage, children), and now back to trains.  They are a wonderful way to share quality time with our kids.  Again, welcome and good luck

Dennis

Welcome Jason,

A lot of us grew up playing with their dad's trains, be it Lionel, American Flyer or other brands.

I got my start with post war O gauge and two pre war O gauge trains that are my dad's, a five unit set from 1938; a 249E steam loco & tender with two freight cars and a caboose, the other set is 1940 with a 224E loco & tender with two 2640 passenger cars and a 2641 observation car.   Most of my stuff is either post war or some current production locomotives, try to keep the pre war from being used that much.  I have several Williams locomotives, a three  GP-9's and three SD-45's and an S-2 turbine(re-issue of Lionel's 671 from post war).

I would have gone with K-Line Super Snap track except that I already had O gauge & 027 track and some Gargraves track.

Most important is to have fun with your model trains and to trouble shoot when needed.

Jason, Welcome to the CTT forum, where you will find a wealth of knowledge and skills and I really enjoyed the photos of your son playing with the trains.  Smile [:)]  The photo that accompanies all my posts was taken when I was five enjoying my trains.  I still have the orginal Marx set.

Hey DaylightFan...Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Good looking start to your layout.  Just wondering, did MOMMA grant right-of-way in the dining room?

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone. I'm still working on my track plan. I've been having fun with this one but would like to try others. What's a good track planning program that works on a mac?

Great to see you here!  My son (5 yrs) and I recently took up the hobby, in January we bought our first set.  I'm a fourth and he's fifth generation Lionel collector, enjoy the hobby!

BTW, you have a very nice start, and you're light years ahead of us.
