LIONEL Big Boy and Legacy
Posted by laz 57 on Friday, May 4, 2007 10:02 PM

Just went on Lionel site and saw that the BIG BOY and Legacy have been set to release for August.  Instead of October?  Is this true?

I'm beginning to think that the military should apply the same strategy toward troup movements that Lionel does with their release dates... no one could hit them, not even friendly fire!  Big Smile [:D]

I don't know Laz, I just want to see it in October at York... meet ya at the table on Friday at 9? Wink [;)]

Wasn't the information on the sign in the booth at York open ended ?

Let's see I have spent that  money how many times?  Its been a fun ride, I will have to come up with some other train  to keep allocating money too in order to justify short term purchases.  I have been counting on those delays.

Let me know when you think it is shipping and I will go down to the harbor and watch for the ship.

Same here.  Tired of delays.  Lionel really screwed this one up.  Should have waited until it was ready.  Got a NS SD40 in there too.  Heard rumor that hey are having chip problems and may be first of next year [I really hope so].  If not preordered from Miss Edna, I would cancel and sppend money on Atlas diesels. SoapBox [soapbox]

same here chief. i have the command base set, two of the cn sd 40 and the dummy. i went to my local hobbyshop and placed my order he said wait this cant be so. no lionel on order whats wrong. i said atlas is making engines that i like and lionel is still having delays. why spend money on stuff and pay in advance then still not have it. when it seems like atlas is a nice made up train with plenty details that coming out when they say. i want spend anymore money with lionel until i get the stuff i payed for.

Sorry to have to say this but Atlas is doing the same thing now. Was supposed to get the new Atlas steamer in April, now they say July. They want to get it right, they say. I'll never preorder anything again . This seem to be the way they are all going now days. Watch the July date be delayed now .

Thanks, John

I would like all these companies be held accountable for their actions.  Why have a due date when they can't produce?  This is like putting the carrot in front of the horse and at the last moment pull it away.  What can be done though?

Not suprised about the delays. I had a Big Boy Legacy set on order back in September but ended up canceling it. I also have the CN-SD40-2 on order as well (2 engines and dummies) and so far they still show a June release. Won't hold my breath though. If they are having chip problems then they should never announce something that isn't ready. My train dollars are better spent elsewhere rather that it be tied up in something that isnt there.

"It's Here!" Yeah...in the catalog perhaps.

I wonder if this BigBoy engine will end up being delayed as long as or longer than the UP Turbine?  Can't remember exactly, but wasn't the turbine delayed something like four years?

I thought a few months ago the Big Boys were completed and ready for shipping, they were just waiting on the Remotes to be ready.

Then just before York it was announced they were having problems with some boards.

Does this mean the Big Boys are now junk and need to have their boards swapped out, or is it a problem with the boards in the Remotes?

I think Lionel is trying to prevent the same mistake they made with the Acela, releasing it when they weren't ready (not enough testing and spare parts). Their suppliers are also probably maxed out on production capability as well, since other makes like Atlas and MTH (?) go to them for their output was well.

Is this really a new story anyways? I waited over a year for my UP SD-70M 'flag' (probably was sitting in a container in China most of that time) before I got it. I guess the catalog orders help the model train companies gauge demand for an item, but what good is that when it takes them over a year to deliver?
