Some Color ful New (to Me) Post War Additions
Posted by Frank53 on Friday, May 4, 2007 1:29 AM

A few new arrivals of Post War Lionel showed up today - a New Haven "automobile transport car" and a NYC Gondola in a color other than maroon or black. Picked these up from Trainz.:

These will add some much needed color to my consists.

Frank,

Did some demolition team get the wrong address, or was Lionel just taken to the cleaners? Is Otis OK?

Looks good, Frank.  As usual.  I like that double door automotive car.

And.......the tubular track.

A woman my wife works with recently gave us some post war rolling stock. 2 orange NH boxcars, a blue B&M boxcar, a red NYC gondola, a blue Lionel gondola, and a 6457 lighted caboose for FREE! She said they belonged to her late husband, and that more Lionels, including a few locomotives would be coming when she found them. She's in the process of cleaning out her house. Can't wait to see what else she gives us! This is the second person my wife works with that has given us free trains.

Jaabat,

You may get some real good items from that woman as she may not know anything about the value of those trains.  I am a little envious of your good fortune!

Frank53,

Some nice post war freight cars. I have about four NYC gondolas, three black and one blue.  Seems like New Haven had some of the more decorative colors.

Had a guy bring some post war Lionel and Marx stuff to my house about a year ago and a few days later he had a freind sell it on ebay. Found it to be discouraging and I have quit talking to this guy even though he lives a few blocks away from me.

Frank, nice cars.  I have done business with Trainz and have had no problems.  They are good to deal with, but because I live in the same state, I have to add tax.

Jim, do you have my address in case she has any duplicates?  I have never received any O gauge items like that, but I did get some old Flyer items....I in turn gave them away.  I did have a good friend give me a bunch of MTH passenger cars, so I guess I am blessed too.

Congratulations to you both,

Dennis

Philly,

My wife talks about our layout and our trains to her friends at work. I do the same thing here at my job. It pays off! Almost 2 years ago, a guy my wife works with gave us boxes of stuff.  Some post war, a NYC Flyer set from the early 90's, buildings, transformers, track, scenery material...Most of my layout was made using the stuff he gave us, including almost all of the structures. And every once in a while, he gives us something else, like a set of figures, or some such thing. Very generous!

A woman I work with just gave us a huge cache (filled my car's trunk) of trains. All of them are HO, but my kids love them. We now have quite a collection of HO trains, and the kids want to build a small layout for that scale.

Now this lady. Her husband died suddenly on a business trip to Florida last summer. Since then she's been going through a tough grieving process. She told my wife she found the train cars in a closet and wanted us to have them. They are all in excellent shape. She said she knows for sure that he had much more stored away in the house, but doesn't know if they are in the attic or the basement. We'll find out soon enough!

And then there is a certain generous Jumijo benefactor that wants to remain nameless. But he has given the kids many, many pieces of rolling stock, passenger cars, and locomotives.  A huge thank you to him for his unending generosity!!

I'm thinking of putting a sign on my desk that says "I want your old toy trains"!

Dennis, You're first in line if I get any more duplicates from her that we don't want. Heck yeah, if I get them for free and don't want them, I'll pass them along. I've done it before with other forum members.

Speaking of which... if anyone has any damaged stuff they don't want, let me know... the wife wants me to have a train wreck scene so I am needing a couple/few cars that can be damaged a bit more... I told her I'm not damaging an engine for a wreck scene... just can't bring myself to wreck an engine!

Brent, I might actually have something for you, including an old engine.  I have a few projects to get to, the extra parts I would be willing to send up.  I just really need to sit down and do it one day.

Jim, Not to tell you how to live your life, but you may be able to spend a Saturday helping the widow out.  If she has some needs around the house, you could take care of and I am sure she will get to the trains.  Not that it is a this for that, but that she is going through a difficult time and it is nice to help others out.

PS:, thanks Jim.

Already a head of you, Dennis. We have her over for dinner and cookouts regularly and both my wife and I help her whenever she asks. I was over to her place just a few weeks ago replacing a washing machine hose and painting some trim. She was going to hire someone to do that!

Well, Frank, you certainly know your trains. And you certainly know scenery. And most definately know how to attack the heart of a postwar lover. Won't be long before your layout graces CTT.
