Lionel's operating lumber unloader
Posted by dsmith on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 7:01 PM
I really enjoy having animated or operating freight cars.  This year Lionel has come out with a Sante Fe Moe and Joe Lumber Unloading Flatcar.  The two figures are supposed to unload lumber planks one board at a time.  It sounds like it would be a fun car.  Has anyone tried this or seen it in operation?

Not personally, but I do want to add one of these.  They do look neat.

Here ya go - this was my favorite Christmas present this year, guys.  The boards sort of shoot out and the guys turn outwards at the same time - they don't actually push the boards, but the illusion is pretty good!  If you have the voltage to the track too low, the boards might not come out very well or it might take multiple pushes of the button on the operating track.  With my locomotive in neutral (I run conventional) and the power up a bit, it works great!  If you turn the power up really high, the boards go flying!  It's a great car and goes great with my lumbermills.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I ordered Moe and Joe and the operating milk car from the latest catalog. I'd also like to pick up an operating gantry crane.
