Thanks, John
I don't know, I guess it's a nice feature. But with postwar you can pretty much rely on the fact that even if it didn't run, it wouldn't be a big deal to get it running again.
I'd be a lot happier and more confident if the all sellers' photos were larger, closer, clearer and shot with more care. Especially when dealing with old trains.

Hello everyone,
I have what you all will probably feel is an elementary, dumb question. Yesterday I bought what i believe is a 60's, maybe 70's Marx train set at an auction. Everything appears to be there except any directions to hook it up. After connecting the track, I wired the transformer to the track as best I knew how. But nothing. The transformer is vibrating, so I'm reasonably sure there is juice to it. My problem is probably in the wiring. Does it make a difference which prong on the transformer the red and black wires are hooked to? Any help would be appreciated and you could possibly help a dad look like a hero in the eyes of his 6-year-old train enthusiast son.
Many advanced thanks.
If there are only two terminals on the transformer, which is likely with a Marx transformer, it doesn't matter which way the wires go. At the track end, the wires should connect one to the center rail and one to either of the outside rails. Does the transformer sound change when you connect the wires, with the train not on the track and the transformer turned up? If so, there is a short circuit somewhere in the track.
Assuming no short circuit, you can disconnect the wires and flick them together, with the transformer on and turned up, to see whether you get a spark. If not, you've probably got a bad transformer, noise or no noise.

I like the idea of the video!!! I collect trains and I also run them!
But, I would trade that feature in if the seller would include more that one fuzzy picture! I like to see the condition of the engine. I tried to buy an #8206 Hudson for $95.00 +s/h. There was only one picture and the seller "said" it was like NEW. But, it was NOT!! It was scratched, nicked, and dented!!!! I was able to get a refund though!
BE CAREFUL!! PHOTOS ARE BETTER AND CHECK SELLERS WARRANTY!!
Just checked the photos and he don't show a tender for the locomotive so I will stay away from the engine completely, also condition don't look that good.
