Lionel Trains 2259W set box
Posted by Jago on Monday, April 2, 2007 3:54 PM

I am in the UK and I recently bought off ebay a few lionel items track, signals, UCS etc from Germany. They arrived in the above box which wasn't listed in the auction. I run postwar trains for fun and have no real interest in the shipping carton. My questions are  does it have any value ?  and is ebay the best place to sell it ? If it has any value I would much rather sell it and invest the money in more rolling stock, any suggestions

Jago,

Set boxes are usually valuable. If  you really don't want it I would try it out on ebay. Many collectors are on the lookout for set boxes to complete the set. The set box you mentioned is for a New Haven EP-5 freight set. The New Haven EP-5 is a pretty desireable postwar diesel and the set in excellent shape is listed in my price guide at $850 U.S. dollars.

Thanks for the advice Mike, any idea as to what to start the bidding at or maybe just list for 99 cents and hope for the best.

Jago,

I would definitely start the box at at least $50 dollars U.S. if it's in good shape, Sturdy and has all flaps present with little or no markngs on the outside.  I'm sure you'll do better than that. I would check some completed ebay auctions.
