Help with missing piece on Lionel 8111
Posted by kpolak on Thursday, March 29, 2007 7:41 AM

Can anyone provide some information on what was broken off the front of this Lionel 8111 SW-2?

Also, year made?  I have seen a few of these, but they have the red markers, and the paint seems to be different (glossier).

I saw a set on an auction site, the box showed green markers, but the engine inside had red markers.

Thank you,

Kurt

The engine was made between 1972 to 1974.The part on thr top is called a radio wheel by Lionel. It is a radio antenna and looks like a large brake wheel app. 1 inch across.

That is the 8010-30 "Radio Wheel".  It's a VHF radio antenna, chrome plated plastic.  For a black plastic part, use 622-10.

The marker lights were issued in clear(8111-30) red(8111-31) and green(8111-26) over the production of the 8111(postwar switchers used clear 622-13 / 622-14 LH / RH).  The 8111 was cataloged from 1971 to 1974 in sets and for seperate sale.

Great!

So this is 'similar' to the PW NW-2's.

Thank You,
