i recently aquired an 027 lionel set from what i think is from 1938 to 1941, all i have to the set though is the engine, the two cars and the caboose. the engine is #1668 i think. painted flat black, and is based on the streamlined Pennsylvania engine from the same time period, with a whisle in the tender the one car is a babe ruth box car, and the other a tanker, i'm sure it would help alot to have the model numbers of these, but i left them with my instructer, who is an avid lionel collector, to work on them, the engine, does not reveres, the little relay thing in the engine is damaged, the switch is broken and needs work, the tender's whistle only works when you hold it upside down, well any information about this set would be great, i would like what came with the set, what type of transformer was with it as well, any help would be appreaciated

You seem to be missing a 1682 caboose. I also believe the set came with a 1033 transformer. Check ebay for these . Good luck and enjoy the set. The black 1668 was made from 39-41. Oh, if your boxcar has number 2679 you need a 2682 caboose if it is a 1679 you need a 1682 caboose. The 1 is manual couplers, the 2 automatic.

If the whistle works only when the tender is held upside down, then
the relay for the whistle needs servicing. Probably just needs a good
cleaning.
