Looking for a local O-gauge group
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 22, 2007 10:12 AM

Hey ya'll, I've checked the National Model Railroad Association site and did a search for local groups, but everyone around me is only HO gauge.  Is there any way to find local O-gaugers, maybe I'm just missing something but I can't find any around.

Yes !! There is a way that you can find O-gauge clubs by joining the TCA .  There they will put you in touch with any members in your area who will know of a nearby club if there is one. You will recieve a directory after joining with everyones names  & phone numbers & other info needed. Though not inexpensive !!

ATSJer,

I will be happy to sponsor you in our O-Gauge group.  We have over 1500'  of Track, and are setup for both DCS and TMCC.  A real friendly group of guys.   And of course we are local as well.  As you know most things are relative, but very local for our area.  Just get on I 40 west for about 1600 miles, take it to I 10, then on I 10  go another  300 miles west, and get on the Harbor Freeway  110 and take it to the end 25 miles.  (South).  Stop when you get to the  Ocean.  Take Gaffey St. up the hill to  Ft. McArthur.  And there we are.  Come on out Saturday I'll buy you lunch and introduce you to everyone.

I found mine though my LHS.  I saw flyers for an open house they were having.

Those local HO folks may prove to be your best source of information in your area...There are allot of us folks that are scale hoppers when it comes to trains.....One of the diehard train nuts that I met at a HO gathering in Grand Forks, ND was into N scale...The smaller scales are by far more popular, but we are all train nuts in common, reguardless of scale...Anytime I go into a hobby shop, I inquire about local groups...Some groups may not be organized, but still exist....Make sure that people know that you are looking..You can also consider putting an add in the local papers, and local grocery store bulliten boards expressing an interest in getting a group going........I have gone on some of my craziest expeditions when totally unexpected....In the mean time, hang out with the HO people...Their trains are smaller, but the knowledge they are willing to share can be applied to any scale...I am sitting within 10 feet of five different gauges as I sit here and type..
